A Glimpse Into The Self-offering Required in Spiritual Life. Sunday's Inspiration 3

Wisdom Quotes From Sri Chinmoy

"Love is not a thing to understand.
Love is not a thing to feel.
Love is not a thing to give and receive.
Love is a thing only to become
And eternally be." -Sri Chinmoy

One of the most significant aspects of spirituality and self-expansion, is soulful self-offering. Sri Chinmoy teaches that dedicated, devoted service is of paramount importance. It can be physical work, or it can take the form of devoted thoughts, ideas, love and concern. Physical service, vital service, mental service and the service of the soul, can all be offered at the feet of the Supreme, in and through humanity.

Sri Chinmoy further states that the greatest service is to have unconditional oneness, conscious oneness with God. Nevertheless, these other forms of service can help considerably, in entering the unconditionally surrendered life.

Selfless offering, is the inner dedication that one is offering in one’s outer activities. Soulful self-giving is the first. Unconditional self-giving is infinitely higher and comes much later.

Serving helps us to expand our Consciousness and to grow real joy. First we serve and feed ourselves, then ones near and dear ones and finally the whole of humanity. This, according to Sri Chinmoy, is like going from one to the many and the many to the infinite.

As we increase our service, our joy also increases as in service is Love and Love is in service. Selfless service is an act of self-uncovering and self-discovering, necessary for the transformation of earth and for the manifestation of heaven on earth.

It is service which transforms pride or vanity, obliterating the stamp of ego. Service helps us to see the universal harmony and to grow into the vast expansion of the universal and self-transcending Spirit. Although action itself does not have a binding power, it is the motive or intention in action that is of paramount importance. This is necessary to know as it may bind as well as free us, depending on its inner nature.

Self-giving in Meditation means to feel loving thoughts, pure thoughts … this increases our inner cry and self-dedication. It is good to feel that a divine power is acting in and through us, so that even if the result comes in the form of failure or success, we still become one with it, thus offering it at the feet of the Supreme.

Sri Chinmoy teaches that self - offering is a short cut to becoming one with God (God-realisation), as it leads directly to true Freedom. As long as it is done without expectation and with absolute oneness, like the loving mother gives to her child, it would lead to more joy … more Delight. In soulful self-offering, there are no feelings or superiority or inferiority; neither is there any separation. Self-giving includes prayer, meditation, soulful smiling, offering through gestures and many other forms, done with a kind Heart and pure intentions.

There are some seekers or aspirants here who seem to serve naturally. Nellieanna, Dora, Bill and Ioannis I am pretty familiar with, but there are many others. They serve through their writings and poetry. I bet that they do not see it that way, but when we consciously or unconsciously do kind deeds so as to elevate or inspire humanity, which is God’s Creation, then we are helping Mother Earth.

Both Linda’s do this through their menu’s and botanical masterpieces as well as Rasma, Audrey and John via their poetry. Eric is a natural, especially with his sermons and Venkatachari Ji is innately spiritual.

Since reading can benefit others immensely, then one has to feel that Cam, Dream On and Frank are producing excellent work for others to enjoy. Nevertheless, from a spiritual standpoint, we are looking at it as that which comes selflessly from the Heart, encouraging our own growth as well as others, always being conscious that the gift is the Grace of a Higher Source.

This concludes my inspirational Hub on this beautiful Sunday here in Kenya. The sun is out, the swimming pool is dancing with happiness and I’m getting ready for the next act of selfless service, in two hours’ time. God bless you all, my friends. If I have not mentioned you, you may still be dearer to me than many. Please do not worry. Om Shanti! –Manatita, 15th April, 2018

Note: This article and much of the words were inspired by the writings of my SpiritualTeacher Sri Chinmoy.

Always the brave, guileless and passionate one, Nikki. You are like a breath of fresh air. I admire you.

The people that I have mentioned I've known for some time. Again, there are others, like yourself and more, who are very dear to me. Depends on what I'm doing. In some Hubs, I mention every Hubber. Quite a lot! Thank you so much for being an ardent follower of my work.

And yes I’m angry as you didn’t mention my name Manatita ji!

But never mind, I’m happy to know that you are having great time there.

      Bless you always.

... moves across the universe, on our small planet the earth each of us (every person) has duty to cary on the creators assignment 'showing and telling' - fully acknowledged " thus those who teaches and are wise shall shine like brightness of the firmament; and those who turns many to righteousness-- to uprightness and right standing with God - shall give forth light like the stars for ever and ever."

Hi Manatita, thank you for sharing this article. It really takes sincerity or good intention without expectation when we give. It can be difficult. Sounds to me you are doing fine in the Sri Chinmoy Centre. Keep it up.

      Yes, Linda.

All great ones are also good ones who create; go beyond the mundane vision. They nearly all have a conscious faith in Something Higher

They are not rule-breakers in the true sense. They respect the law ... duty ... but they go beyond or above what we know. Dickinson was a classical example as was our Lord in a much more profound way.

Even for those who hated him, they could not deny His profound impact.

Manatita, just moments ago I wrote on Eric's article. Is it just coincidence that I feel the very same words I wrote to him apply to this posting as well?

"The artists, poets, writers, visionaries -- all were or are rule-breakers. Some did it out of self aggrandizement and their names fade in time. Those who strive to do more, improve and reach out to and for others, do so out of love. Those are the ones who we still know and remember and their actions/choices/love last."

Sean I did not know this, but I am not surprised. Guruji has spoken of bringing down the divinisation of Light into matter as well as the Spirit. Big concepts to grasp.

I'm trying and a couple of kenyans are helping me. God is always merciful. Glory be! My Love continues to all at home.

Bill I know. You had an interesting yet solid background. Goodness and human deceny plus Bev was already waiting for you. Today I spoke about Karma. Yours was already written even in adversity. But you know this. Peace.

Blessings to you my friend. It is good and wise to note that sincere authors are giving so much. I feel in those you mentioned. I see them publish a new article and run there for the love.

Sri Chimnoy is a beacon, a light upon the hill when darkness abounds. Thank you for this wonderful offering in love.

A very nice and inspiring message.

Self-offering can be done through any kind of good work that betters the lives of people and brings spiritual joy or satisfaction to the soul.

Thanks, my Bro, for this wonderful post with quotes from Sri Chinmoy.

My dear Brother, Manatita, I can't express with words the honour that I feel to be mentioned in this excellent text as someone "who seem to serve naturally!" This mention is a motivation and a reminder to me, to try harder every day the one thing that I believe is the highest task for a man, to serve and offer love. I know that I have a long way ahead yet, but thank you so much for this mention, especially coming from someone like you. I admire your dedication to this sacred task. I admire that this moment you are in Africa to serve and help our Brothers!

Recent research in neurobiology has shown that offering love and serving people leads to an increase in the size of the brain and thus of the abilities. So not less than the soul and spirit, the body too, wants to offer and serve!

To always remember this task, I have written a quote in a frame in my classroom, saying:

"When I offer with my heart, I become a gift to God."

Thank you, my Brother, for this beautiful Hub, but more for being an example, with your life, for me and many others!

It is why I became a teacher. I was raised to believe, and act, upon self-offering. We need much more of it in today's society, my friend. Hopefully we will see an increase in it soon.

      Blessings always!
