A Glimpse Into The Self-offering Required in Spiritual Life. Sunday's Inspiration 3
Wisdom Quotes From Sri Chinmoy
"Love is not a thing to understand.
Love is not a thing to feel.
Love is not a thing to give and receive.
Love is a thing only to become
And eternally be." -Sri Chinmoy
One of the most significant aspects of spirituality and self-expansion, is soulful self-offering. Sri Chinmoy teaches that dedicated, devoted service is of paramount importance. It can be physical work, or it can take the form of devoted thoughts, ideas, love and concern. Physical service, vital service, mental service and the service of the soul, can all be offered at the feet of the Supreme, in and through humanity.
Sri Chinmoy further states that the greatest service is to have unconditional oneness, conscious oneness with God. Nevertheless, these other forms of service can help considerably, in entering the unconditionally surrendered life.
Selfless offering, is the inner dedication that one is offering in one’s outer activities. Soulful self-giving is the first. Unconditional self-giving is infinitely higher and comes much later.
Serving helps us to expand our Consciousness and to grow real joy. First we serve and feed ourselves, then ones near and dear ones and finally the whole of humanity. This, according to Sri Chinmoy, is like going from one to the many and the many to the infinite.
As we increase our service, our joy also increases as in service is Love and Love is in service. Selfless service is an act of self-uncovering and self-discovering, necessary for the transformation of earth and for the manifestation of heaven on earth.
It is service which transforms pride or vanity, obliterating the stamp of ego. Service helps us to see the universal harmony and to grow into the vast expansion of the universal and self-transcending Spirit. Although action itself does not have a binding power, it is the motive or intention in action that is of paramount importance. This is necessary to know as it may bind as well as free us, depending on its inner nature.
Self-giving in Meditation means to feel loving thoughts, pure thoughts … this increases our inner cry and self-dedication. It is good to feel that a divine power is acting in and through us, so that even if the result comes in the form of failure or success, we still become one with it, thus offering it at the feet of the Supreme.
Sri Chinmoy teaches that self - offering is a short cut to becoming one with God (God-realisation), as it leads directly to true Freedom. As long as it is done without expectation and with absolute oneness, like the loving mother gives to her child, it would lead to more joy … more Delight. In soulful self-offering, there are no feelings or superiority or inferiority; neither is there any separation. Self-giving includes prayer, meditation, soulful smiling, offering through gestures and many other forms, done with a kind Heart and pure intentions.

There are some seekers or aspirants here who seem to serve naturally. Nellieanna, Dora, Bill and Ioannis I am pretty familiar with, but there are many others. They serve through their writings and poetry. I bet that they do not see it that way, but when we consciously or unconsciously do kind deeds so as to elevate or inspire humanity, which is God’s Creation, then we are helping Mother Earth.
Both Linda’s do this through their menu’s and botanical masterpieces as well as Rasma, Audrey and John via their poetry. Eric is a natural, especially with his sermons and Venkatachari Ji is innately spiritual.
Since reading can benefit others immensely, then one has to feel that Cam, Dream On and Frank are producing excellent work for others to enjoy. Nevertheless, from a spiritual standpoint, we are looking at it as that which comes selflessly from the Heart, encouraging our own growth as well as others, always being conscious that the gift is the Grace of a Higher Source.
This concludes my inspirational Hub on this beautiful Sunday here in Kenya. The sun is out, the swimming pool is dancing with happiness and I’m getting ready for the next act of selfless service, in two hours’ time. God bless you all, my friends. If I have not mentioned you, you may still be dearer to me than many. Please do not worry. Om Shanti! –Manatita, 15th April, 2018
