A Halloween Night

Updated on May 1, 2014
Source

By: Wayne Brown

Tis’ the night when dark unknown things scream

When ugly goblins turn up in one’s every dream

The full yellow moon calls for the werewolf howls

In the dark, a blood-sucking vampire prowls

A full moon golden illuminates the eerie sky

Fallen leaves on the breeze go rustling by

The silence of dark witches riding brooms on the wind

Out on the night up to their evils tricks once again

Eye of Newt, Wing of Bat, a pinch of Bull Frog tongue

Brewing in a cauldron hot, a treat for all who come

A spicy drink of evil elixir turned by the devil’s hand

Fear it with all your heart; the temptations of man

An uttered curse over a Voo-Doo Doll under candlelight

Sent out to some special one unaware on this night

A raspy scratching upon the window by the night stand

Could it be the icy fingers of Ol’ Death’s cold hands?

Suddenly, there’s dead silence in this time and space

Registering only heavy breathing; mind and heart race

The fear of the unseen; the unknown; threaten survival

All that is evil lurking there, awaiting one’s arrival

Is it fate or is it fear that cause my feet in place to freeze?

My heart races in fright and I feel a trembling in my knees

What awful tricks of the mind; thing unreal to my sight

All conjured up by my imagination on this Halloween night

Good one Wayne! Think that I will close the blinds and curl up until this scary night of Halloween is over. Ha! Up vote + sharing. Happy Halloween!

I just got in the mood and scared others, while I am making scary masks lighting some jack-o-lanterns and prepping sound systems. Now I will make a hot brew so stinky only fools will venture close, Did I say I was three?

Thank you for the great Halloween poem. It is 8:11 in my neighborhood and I haven't seen a ghost yet.

Wayne, the only thing that's missing is

      BOO!

      Great job, my friend!

Always trying to scare me aren't you. If it's not with threats of a Romney President, then it's with gouls and goblins. Like Rich says - BOO! lol

@Mhatter99...I looked about yesterday and realized there had been so little written this year on the Halloween subject...had to remedy that! LOL! Very few goblins in my neighborhood as well....it's a new day...unlike those of our youth. Thanks much! ~WB

@rcrumple....Sorry about that...should have thrown one in at the end! Thanks much! ~WB

@lrc7815....I am a scary guy, Linda....BOOOOOOOOOO! LOL! Thanks much! ~WB

Wayne - I don't do Halloween because I'm not a pagan :) Let me know about Saturday night.

Thought-provoking poem, Wayne! Especially these phrases -

"The fear of the unseen; the unknown; threaten survival

All that is evil lurking there, awaiting one’s arrival..."

      and

"Fear it with all your heart; the temptations of man..."

Really scary, Wayne. Happy I waited till after Halloween to read this or I never would have had the courage to venture out and solicit trick or treat goodies. :)

Fantastic. Great witch image and the video go wonderful with your scary poem. However this year being so far away from my hometown NYC it was Frankenstorm which scared me more than anything Halloween could throw my way. Besides we don't really have Halloween on this side of the world. So enjoyed this reminder of Halloween.

@Gypsy Rose Lee....It was one of those last minute things on the day of Halloween that I came up with this one. I saw there was little traffic on the theme and I just could not let it pass. Thanks for the good words! ~WB

"Fear it with all your heart; the temptations of man..."

Very true, and at the heart of Halloween, I suspect. I enjoyed this one, Wayne. :-)
