A Haiku - Cleaning Day

Updated on August 29, 2012

Liberating "Stuff"....

It will be better when I'm done...or will it?

Making the hard choices easy....

"Throw away some 'stuff'!"

The order came from on high.

Let's see now, what "stuff"?

The closet's the place!

Fibber McGee had one, too.

Mine's about like his.

Open door slowly!

Treasures all! My precious vault!

Not "stuff". Memories.

"Pieces of me" here.

Tennis anyone? Cribbage?

Flash bulbs, save them still.

Lots of things could go.

But mine won't be the first ones.

Her fur coat should do!

Great piece and yes, for me, stuff is often about memories

If everything could actually fit in any and all of the closets, I would be relieved and the Mrs. would be ecstatic, even if it took losing a fur coat (which she doesn't have or need, it being 96 F. here today!) And we thought this was the end of the summer! How bad is Utah's drought? Northern Utah has had a total of 2" of moisture since April! One casualty will be deer in that part of the state this winter.

I need to clean out my closet too. Oh my, you are going to throw away her fur coat. Hope you keep her warm this winter!

My closet needs a good going over. But it's going to wait, as always.

Yeah, get rid of the fur. It ain't ethical.

flashmakeit: If this winter is anything like last winter, cold and snow won't be the problem. The lack of cold and snow will be the problem. We need the cold to kill some bugs, and the snow to fill the reservoirs!

wetnosedogs: Fellow procrastinator, I salute you. But don't wait too long! That accumulating "stuff" propagates like fruit flies!

aviannovice: Tell that to the cavemen. They noticed how animals keep warm, even the wooly mammoths!

Mhatter99: The standing joke on the "Fibber McGee and Molly" radio show came from the sound effects when someone made the mistake of opening Fiber McGee's closet door and the crammed in contents came tumbling out! And that was funny because we could all relate.

You get a great big vote up for this one. You are right. Most everything that should be thrown away is actually a memory of something. Now the one incredible piece of memorabilia which I have is the business card my grandfather would hand people in Riga in the 1800s!!!

It is hard to purge, isn't it? Enjoyed the read!

Purge might be the right word for what is called for at this stage!

This is so cute and I love the ending. Yes, I feel the same way when it comes to cleaning out my 'vault'.

With each passing year, it gets harder and harder to toss things away, because they often hold memories we don't want to part with. Enjoyed this poem.

cherylone: Chuckling with you as I think of the struggles we go through to not rid ourselves of "treasures" we might find hidden in the "chaff"...the only good part of going through all the "chaff" to avoid throwing out the "treasures." But, take heart, I'm back at it again.

Genna East: The thing that really slows down the process are (1) the increasing number of responsibilities, thus less time for sorting, and (2) the procrastination which hits when the "Well I might......etc." comes into play. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I'll see you the bottom side of the titles.
