A Haiku - Competition

Updated on March 8, 2012

Competing to be "the best."

What are we setting out to win?
What are we setting out to win? | Source

What does "best!" mean?

Best we would be now.

But by whose defnition?

Best is not just "best!".

"Leaving a legacy...."

ruchira: I think there can be an end in sight, almost as if asking ourselves "What would I like to hear honestly said about me at my funeral?"

always exploring: The Haiku are such a joy to create, for it means pondering life and summing it up. I like to start with a significant word, then edit the photo (often using the same "pondering" one) caption that above and below, and by then I have ideas rolling for what the Haiku can say in its 5-7-5 syllable lines.

Gypsy Rose Lee: You might try my wife's method in which each night before bed she looks herself in the mirror and gives herself a "score for the day" consisting of evaluating what she did well and what she can improve on in following days. It's one-on-one with herself and God.

ImKarn23: See my last comment above. I am sure that is what my wife is doing, and including "love" as part pf the "kinder" and more "empathetic" you yearn the world's people might be (and can be.)

If only each individual competed only with him/herself! To become better: empathetic...more patient...etc..

      Ahhhh...wouldn't that be refreshing...

Do we ever know when we have done our best? We may consider it to be our best but in other people's eyes it may be the worst.
