A Haiku - Devotion

Updated on April 1, 2012

Constancy to what is of value....

Devoted to treasures of what?
Devoted to treasures of what? | Source

Devotion is more than feeling, and only sometimes lasting....

Devotions are real

We all have them, but to what?

Money, Fame, Ease call.

Devotions change:

To parent, to lover, self.

Is it Devotion?

"Devotee" tells much,

Of what one's all about now.

Focused, yes, on what?

Constancy defines

Real devotion stable... pure,

A bulls-eye focus.

True piety lasts.

Devotion to more than self,

to a lifelong goal.

A "Devotions" book,

Fixed, certain prayers said aloud,

routinely, deeply.

Parent for children,

devotion tested, constant.

God's love: eternal.

Devotion is more than feeling, devotion is what enables one to be steadfast and faithful and true when feelings are unreliable.

Perspycacious, I love your premise and I appreciate all the Haiku which examine devotion from so many angles. An excellent Hub. SHARING

phdast7: Thanks for sharing and for the read and Comments. Pity the persons who never devoted themselves to anything, but hoped and expected that others would be devoted to them.

ImKarn23: I appreciate your being a "devoted" reader of my poetry and your wonderful Comment. Are you really moving to Florida? Why not St. George, Utah? Check it out. Mild winters and swimming in Lake Powell, while close to Las Vegas.

homesteadbound: Thanks for the heads up. It should be a little "suspect" when a supposed "writer" joins BigEzine on 4/1/2012 and has 207 articles posted by the evening of 4/2/2012! I will bet there is a lot of other copyrighted materials in his "outstanding production!!" I wonder how many others were mine!

First and foremost I am devoted to myself. Then there is a list but basically I do my best to be a good member of this world in which we live and to do what I can to help those less fortunate.

Gypsy Rose Lee: "To thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not be false to any man." Humility, so hard to learn, so rewarding in its accomplishment. Good points you made, a good credo.

I just joined BigEzine so I can better monitor and complain about infringements there. I get the impression they are European, perhaps UK-based.

Incidentally their first editorial guideline is that all material must be the contributor's own property. If you have been infringed on by someone on that site, let me know with the BigEzine link and the link to your piece on HP and I will register a complaint with them for you.

great poem...this reminds me on things that you need to do for others, if it is not present then this world would have a bigger problem...

racinwa: Is it strange at all that devotion to others is devotion to God and to oneself? That's a 3 for 1.
