A Haiku - Father

A Haiku - Father

Single dads are rare.

But loving dads still are there.

It takes two at times.

Father means more now.

Traditional roles are clear,

But new roles have come.

Drugs, gangs, porn, and such.

Call forth strong and loving hands.

Mom and kids need them.

Family is key.

Fathers home to lead the fight.

Nurture, love them all.

Fathers can say "No,"

But only if they are there.

Bill Bailey come home.

It takes time to know.

To guide, to set today's tone.

Takes a man's firm hand.

I do think that every family needs a father figure. It's true that roles these days are not so traditional. I was lucky to have that tradition and I'm convinced it makes a difference.

Lots to make us think here.

annart - This was posted on HP late at night, so it is not surprising that the first comment came from England, and less than surprising that it was you who took the time to read and comment. Thanks so much.

You may recall that I posted what I wrote for my dad's funeral. Fortunately my dad was not the Bill Bailey of Tin Pan Alley notoriety, and I'm sure yours wasn't either. How lucky we both were.

carrie Lee Night - Thanks again for reading a Hub of mine. I am pleased that it resonated with you. Sad to say, some Moms should give copies of this to the "almost absent" dads, the "workaholic" dads, and reclaim or release the "philandering" dads.

It has been written that "....no success can compensate for failure in the home." And also that, "a country is only as strong as its families are."

We are failing too often, and succeeding too seldom. We can do better but we have to make choices what our homes will be like, as carefully as a nesting bird creates a nest.

Yes, fathers need to be in the picture, no matter where they stand in the family unit.

aviannovice - On again. off again fathers only count when they are on; lessons some only learn the hard way. When they can't stand at the head of the family, the mother must.

Three cheers for fathers who stand true to their role and persevere.
