A Haiku - Intuition

Updated on February 21, 2015

Knowing intuitively is not a lesser knowing.

Knowing without knowing why?
Knowing without knowing why? | Source

I know it, but I'm not sure why I know.

I was on patrol.

My orders took us leftward.

I knew they were wrong.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I questioned my thought.

I was sure we must decline.

I took us rightward.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~

We came upon it.

The ambush meant to kill us.

We were at its rear.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Why did I know it?

What saved us from our death knell?

Intuition did.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Would I do that now?

Time will tell, but if I "know"

Elsewhere we will go.

Note:

This is based on a true story from the war in South Vietnam. The patrol leader reached a fork in the trail. His orders were to take the left fork in the trail. Feeling inspired the he should not go to the left, he wrestled with disobeying the order. Had he been wrong, and lived, he would have been severely disciplined. He followed his inspiration, which some would call his intuition, and his patrol did come up on the backside of an ambush which had been set to kill his patrol...had he taken them down the other path called for by his orders. Rather than being killed, they killed the ambushers. He survived to return safely home.

A question you can ask yourself:

Has there been a time when intuition influenced your decision for the good?

Yes, intuition is a great thing, but the should I/shouldn't I question is worrying. I still say 'go with your gut feeling' and hope for the best! Great composition of haikus. Voted up and awesome.

Well done and with factual background as well!?! Niiice! I have always relied on my intuition to keep me out of trouble. Its nothing to scoff at.

I usually follow my intuition when it has been especially strong and it hasn't failed me yet. Wonderful story about the war and thank God intuition saved them all.

What we do when we follow our intuition can be defined as "being into it."
