A Haiku - Service

Updated on February 24, 2015

What is the challenge of service?

"We can't do everything for everyone everywhere, but we can do something for someone somewhere." (Richard L. Evans)

Perhaps we can do the most important thing we are capable of doing, for the person or family that needs us the most, before we do the less important things for ourselves.

A Haiku - Service

First, servant of all.

others first above yourself.

Then "....master of all."

No greater thanks....

"There is no greater thanks than the thanks of a person who needed you and you were there meeting their need."

The heart that loves others more than self,

is the heart that has already burst with love overflowing

"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve." (Albert Schweitzer)

Standing in the cold to keep the pot boiling.

This Christmas season Salvation Army volunteers will be ringing bells to welcome your charitable giving for others less fortunate. Please spare what you can until it hurts you as much as the needy are hurting.

Serving others....thoughts from the author:

When we generously share, we gain, not lose.

When we hold back, we lose that chance for joy.

Giving for the acclaim which can come, has little claim on goodness.

Giving in anonymous obscurity has its lasting private joys.

Taking from our plenty to give another is worthy.

Taking from ourselves and sharing equally is a lasting gift of spirit.

What can you give that another can multiply?

What can you multiply that you were given by another?

When we see a need, God is also looking.

When we satisfy a need, God is also satisfied.

I am not my brother's keeper.

I am my brother's partner in all things.

Marriage is for many their greatest and most immediate chance for lifelong selfless service.

If you don't want something to last forever, it will shortly die of neglect.

We eventually forget bad memories, but good memories endure forever.

Peace will come one dropped rock at a time.

For peace to come, everyone must be willing to sacrifice.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A materialistic society seldom sacrifices for the common good.

A profitable servant should share in the profit.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

True love has no "Off" switch, but rejection activates its "Dimmer."

Seek opportunities to serve, and you will always find them;

put on blinders and you will bump into them.

aviannovice - Thanks for today's comment elsewhere. I like your statement here: "It is better to bring joy to a few that will last forever, than the multitude, which will be forgotten in a heartbeat."

I can count these personal things on both hands and then some. It is better to bring joy to a few that will last forever, than the multitude, which will be forgotten in a heartbeat.

Anytime and anywhere I always will reach out a helping hand and find joy in knowing that I have helped someone in need.

It's repeatedly a new week with new chances to be of loving service to others, the true key to another "good week."

Ericdierker - I pray along with you, that the day will come when we make that crucial difference in someone turning around and giving God the joy of loving them at their best.

On bended knee I pray to be of service somehow to someone, and what a blessing it is when God lets me know that I have been.

May each Sabbath be blessed with the satisfied memories of the six days which have just passed.
