A house divided against itself.-by-MFB III

Mom's gone, divorced
and then dead at 60
in a closet sized room
in a sister's
welfare rent-a-heap
in Chula Vista
where mom chose to stay
for the 11 grandchildren
her disabiltiy pension
helped feed
way too often.

Dad's off on a jaunt
down Rt. 66
another escape from
the ties that bind
neckties, shaky
family ties
ties to the bitter past
with his new wife
of 22 years who wishes
we would call her mom
but Mom's gone.

Brothers in

California
a good kid
works hard
always struggling
seperated from his sister
on welfare cause
she did one good job
of thorough cleaning
she cleaned out his
bank account
took his checks
and used them to
to finance her
favorite haunts
in Tijuana
just like she used
to keep her mom's
small stipends
wiped out
but Mom's gone.

Three sisters
one married
and widowed
soon to marry again
a nurse
overworked
by choice
my favorite
but that was long ago.

One married
and divorced
times three
loves her kids
but makes
minimum wage
works hard
but never can
catch up
permanent residence
on a dead-end street.

One more

seldom married
but can claim
nine different fathers
for 11 children
countless evictions
and her oldest daughter
of 14 just had
one of her own

And here I sit
with a six year old
who loves the idea
of family
but is
seldom visited
by any of those
who can afford it
a few holidays
he enjoys his
abbreviated family
and so I give him
6 times the love
he's lacking due
to a broken family
spread miles apart
in space and heart
a house divided
against itself
cannot stand
I know.....
I can't stand it

This really caught me! It's gritty and discouraged but somehow manages to give hope.

These words are full of loss and sadness and they make me aware that I want to hide away from the confusions in in my life but keep writing; I always want to be aware. It's beautifully done.

I agree with all and Debarshi Dutta! I agree with the message. The pain. The paths. I want to be better myself and I struggle. Thanks MFB!
