A LETTER TO MY CHILDREN - Mother's Day 2012

Updated on May 1, 2012

So you both can read this one day...

Well how do I begin? Another Mother's Day is drawing near and my mind is clouded with all sorts of thoughts. Memories of my mother many years ago and how hard it was to lose her at eight years old. How thankful I was for my grandmother who was there for me in every way. How I used to give my father and grandmother a Happy Mother's Day card every year. The list goes on!! Thoughts of both of my pregnancies and how far I have come as a woman and a mother. How my heart aches at the thought of both of you growing older...I watch my heart walk away with you on a daily basis.....Thinking of both of you wondering out to our garden to pick so many flowers on Mother's Day or special occasions!!!

I love you both more then any words can say....Here it goes my little one's....

My oldest one, the most amazing son a woman can ask for!!!....I have told you the truth about my mother's death and you looked at me with the most beautiful, loving eyes and that was one moment (out of a million more..ha) that I was so proud to have you as my son! Your kindness, your love and your compassion touches me. Your anger that stirs your deep and admirable strength, your creative passion for life, your fantastic sense of humor! Oh how you have made me laugh so many times with your loving heart!!! I have so many memories of your sparkling blue eyes smiling in a haze of splendor! Your amazing talent for business and the internet already!!!! The fact that you are making money on you tube on a daily basis and you are not stopping! I think you were doing this when you turned ten years old!!! The way you strive for good grades and assure me that if you fall a bit behind that you will come through. And the little notes you scribble once in a while when you are sorry for something. All of your fantastic and loving hugs that let me know how much you love me. Your funny sayings that you use on a daily basis....Oh you are so beautiful and handsome. I love you! You mean the world to me..... little girlie....

My beautiful flower butterfly girl!!! How you bring me to a place of awe with your sensitive heart. The little gifts that you make for me at the spur of a moment and the tender kindness you share with me and others on a daily basis. Who could forget the young three year old who was taking her own showers and shampooing her own hair at that very young tender age. My CEO I call you now!!! Ms. Corporate is here!!!! I do not think that there is a nine year old like you in the world! I am convinced of this. The way you take such good care of your three hamsters with so much love and clean your room all the time because you want too!! Sometimes I hear vacuuming on a school morning at 6am!!! I will always have these amazing memories stamped in my heart forever. Your artwork has brought me to tears...if you only knew!!! Sometimes I feel a bit bad for not showing you enough love but I try to give you as much as I can. One day I will explain why losing my mother as a child affected this part of me. But just know that you mean everything to me!!! I hope you will read this one day and you will see a glimpse of what you were like at this age......AND how much I love you!!!! In fact you are so an angel and a butterfly all in one!!!

For Both Of You.....

In fact I may do this for you every year on Mother's Day to show you how much I love you both and share the memories of the time when I write them down!! Believe it or not I have shed some tears while writing this today. It is really hard to do because sometimes the emotions run too deep and the hurt from my childhood gets in the way and brings fears. Sometimes I love you both so much that it hurts!! You will get this one day....maybe one day when you are older...I can explain...don't forget to ask me someday if you need answers....

If you were to read this now I do not think you will understand how much I love you!! But I feel at this moment that I can give you this gift since you are both too young for me to say everything I want too. If I said everything in this article, you would both look at me with your gorgeous beings and say "Mom, are you ok?" And I would just laugh and tell you YES!!!!!! Because I LOVE YOU!!!!!

And then we would probably all giggle.....maybe order pizza from the local place, listen to you practice violin, piano, or guitar.....maybe you both will fight over the television in the main room. Although we have not had any television programming in our home for the past seven years. I told you that it was broken when we moved here! Remember?!! Then we may argue about electronic game time and rules during the school week. But the main point is we are here...together FULL OF LOVE!!!

Sorry a bit silly but this was a Page in the history of mothers day, simple and lovingly unique to a caring person, a human being who respects what we are each worth to each other. You make the world a place your and (our respective children ) can grow into a better world … for however long it lasts. What I said about a shared space, you give it justice. A parent has just about everything …hey!!!!

Hi G! What a special post to leave for your children. IslandVoice nailed this with the descriptive "poignant" and I love Georgie Lowery's "This is the first time I've clicked the 'beautiful' button." Clicking the beautiful button on your posts becomes a repetitive action. You write from your heart - this shows every single time you post. Thank you for sharing as I took a long peek at my own children and how special they are to me. You're a special lady, G. I think your children have an awesome mom!
