A Meditation on a Masters Hand

Updated on November 15, 2010

I went to see a Master today...

Dead long past as most masters are...

yet for that time or his work, no decay to heart...

placed on canvas without reserve...

over and over the brush strokes baring evidence to a heart

carried to me on mountain air...

His testimony touches still...

though details here and there tell his time...

still there is something in the eyes...

eyes of every man he painted...

telling the truth of his convictions rife...

As if Christ himself was the muse to one so gentle...

so tender yet tenacious in his art...

as to place his mark there...

Though few compared to all seeing yet not...

appreciating his masterpieces...

with anything more then an art student' gauche, glib remark...

I saw today a bit of my soul...

scorched as it was for my passage in this spiritual world...

as I go about my less then sainted task...

though my Father would never repine me with its details...

his work I have ever done in detail...

Though not as the details of this man...

who's skeletal hand now touched my heart...

Reminding me why.

I started on this path...

so dim to me yet light enough...

that I walk it really without regret...

No more harrowed but saddened...

I shed a tear...

one I haven't shed for years...

answering for my faith that matched his brush strokes...

slash for slash and his time at canvas...

sand for sand  till I saw myself in his art...

shuddering with the accuracy that his hand betrayed...

So I thank him now...

And perhaps he can see that I got the point...

His work to speak for lips that do not speak as they did once...

now they whisper to me as never before...

God rest you Carl Block.

Thanks for stopping by. You know that we can always chat here about whatever don't you? I love that you appreciate my work but I would like know what you think about it. It might help you think through your own style and it would enrich my education to know how you think.

Me too, lol, I can never take my work after the fact as I do when I write it. I am glad you enjoyed it.
