A Mile Away, Is a Mile Too Far

Updated on May 19, 2013

You're thousands of miles away from me

But it might as well be one mile

For you are too far away from me

If you cannot kiss my smile.

If you think of me as I think of you

Then these are things you’re feeling too.

But remember this, my love to be

I’m with you and you’re with me.

No, not in person, that’s not what I mean

In everything else that’s unforeseen.

When the sun is shining, that is me

Wrapping my arms ‘round you tightly.

When the rain is falling, those are my tears

For minutes apart feel like hundreds of years.

When the wind is blowing, I whisper to you

Sweet nothings, secrets and my fantasies too.

When the stars are twinkling, to you I am winking

And letting it known, it’s of you I am thinking.

When the moon lights your night, it is really my eye

Telling you baby, I’m always close by.

When the sky is blue and no clouds at all

That is my promise we can make this long haul.

When the dew in the morning, you find as you wake

That is a hint of the magic only you and I can make.

When we come together like the horizon and the sun

The beauty we make will be repeated by none.

Oh how I yearn now, for the sunset

When it meets the horizon, our troubles, forget.

What a beautiful poem! I really liked the way you brought light out of the sorrow and I am also happy that your poem unites in a way 2 people that deeply love each other, even if they are miles away. Sometimes, though, this is not the difficult part between a couple. Having someone sitting right next to you and feel as if you are miles apart is much more difficult...maybe your next poem perhaps??? :) :P

      litsabd,

Thank you so much, I'm honored. I definitely put my emotions into this one. There is certainly sorrow when loving from a distance, but you are right; I have said before that one can feel more lonely when with someone than when they are actually alone... I've been there and that is a sad and vulnerable place to be... I like the idea, perhaps it will be an upcoming poem :-)

Thanks again for the visit and you offered some wonderful remarks!

Cat, this is not only a beauty of a piece of writing but the emotions are felt in every word. Yes, miles sometimes seem like a lifetime but when one has the ability to see and feel our connection through the forces of the universe and nature, we can indeed reach across the miles. I simply love this. Voted up and awesome.

We can feel lonely when we're not alone or the contrary. If we can feel and see a powerful love through nature, then we will never be alone. Thank you again, you really added some beauty to this page! ... and I am overdue your way... I will work my way there.

In order for the poet to write in such a way that the very heart itself can feel such deep emotion, the poet must be filled with these same emotions.

You have proven with this beautiful piece, how deeply you love and how beautiful you are.

I'm pinning this to my favorite poetry and sharing all over the place. I can hardly wait for your next "work of art." - You have so much inside of you that craves to be released. Let it go. Keep sparkling and shining!

      vocalcoach,

Oh my goodness, you’re going to make me cry… and I’m the one the wrote the poem :-)

This is true…I write my little poems and most of them I keep to myself because I just enjoy it, but this one… one wrote itself. Honestly, I just put my fingers on the keyboard and started hitting buttons and next thing you know… it was over. You are a very perceptive woman, I think that is great… I like to think of myself as one as well, but sometimes seeing ourselves is the hardest person to see.

Your words are so gracious and beautiful, you have touched me so much, thank you, thank you, a thousand times, thank you! I am so deeply honored and I shall be your way to discover the gems that I know exist over there :-)

Oh my dear Cat, I knew it , you're an incurable romantic and when I read this I put on my Bon Jovi wig and my tight leather pants. The only problem now is I can't get out of my pants, lol lol.

You definitely made my fly with these words and as I always say in terms of poe-tree -if you write from your heart the mind will always follow and you have done both here on the highest artistic level because there are few people in this lifetime I've met with a heart as pure and open as yours.

Amen. Oh yes I love my three cats.

lake erie time ontario canada 1:03am listening to one of the greatest jazz players of all time Eric Dolphy and I walked around all day just in shorts and no shirt and I even went into the water for the first time for a swim since last October and right now we have thunderstorms but I managed to see the beautiful half moon over the lake earlier in the evening.

Oh it was a warm day wasn't it... I picked a bad day to clean the garage :D Oh, Lake Erie must've been cold, are you nuts! You're going to get yourself sick and we certainly don't need that!

yes a dark one . There is a disturbing trend in popular culture that makes 'light' of violence. Filmmakers like Quentin Tarrintino almost make violence look slightly romantic and lighthearted so when I write about the dark side, my violence is dead serious (pardon the pun) and I want to rub the noses of my readers into it so deep that they can't even breathe - and on that note, lol, I will have a nice cuppa tea and jump into the lake after cutting the grass and walking around the bay.

A good afternoon to you my dear Cat - thank you for the most memorable birthday tribute of all Hubtime and I am still in a glow over it.

      James,

Oh thank you so much, you are such a good friend. I am so honored that you thought of me in my absence… and you were right in doing so as I would never abandon these pages for as long as I had… but I had no power for 24+ hours! That was a nightmare, but I am back and over a thousand emails waiting, but I will be your way, that’s a fact! :D I hope you are doing well, my friend and I will be your way to make sure later. Thanks again.

Breathe, Cat. It's all good! You can catch up - there is life elsewhere too, you know. ;) You're right about not knowing how much you appreciate electricity until you are without it, though. Lots of other things, too, for that matter.

I thought of you while I was without power... and I see your name painted throughout my 11 pages of emails :-) I will be your way, that's for sure!!!! ...and you're right, there are a lot of things we don't know how much we appreciate until we're without them... much, like you, shanmarie :D.

LOL! He was showing me pictures of his prom date and talking about how excited he was to finally be getting to meet her in person and take her. And then he couldn't believe it when someone else told him I was 30. Seemed to shock a bunch of people for some reason.

You know what else we have in common? Cats. My Yahoo screen name that I never hardly use anymore is kittyluvs2purr1982. I used to get quite a few. . .ahem.. .interesting comments about it. Can't a girl just like to purr? haha I mean, can't a girl just have a cat that that likes to purr?

Okay, I'm about to publish another hub in a minute. Can't find a pic I like, though. Maybe I'll post without and go back and add one.

Cat, this poetry is exquisite. Such love and passion. Distance -- ah yes. . it's a factor, but not a hindrance. Even time is not really a 'stopper' when there is love.

I adore Bon Jovi and this song & video are meltingly wonderful. I'd not heard it before! I must get it on iTunes! There was another "Always" much earlier-on. Frank Sinatra sang it and it was frequently played or sung at weddings then. It was among Frankie's earlier songs, before he got 'cool' & found better musician backup! :-) So it's stodgy compared to Bon Jovi's, but each sentiment expressed has beauty of its own as it expresses love and loving. http://youtu.be/eLh-m1Z_feY

Oh Nellieanna, I'm clapping with excitement that this pleased you :D

Your words are true, real love can get through anything, even time and distance and as many others have pointed out, sometimes we can be lonely with a love right next to us!

You, a Bon Jovi fan? I would've never guessed and I'm equally impressed! He is very talented, particularly in that he is not restricted to one, exact kind of style. I simply adore this song, believe it or not, it was on a juke box up at my childhood camp and used a lot of quarters, but I haven't heard it in far too long and it was a treat to listen to again. I will most definitely check out Frank's "Always", as he is an absolute classic and now, curiousity has gotten the cat :D ... and I spoke too soon, you have provided the link for me, which I will thank you in advance for and on my way, I am! Thank you so very much, again for your beautifully encouraging words and ever so interesting contribution!

      Dearest Catherine,

I had a refreshing, Sunday bath, and then took a leisurely stroll around the park, which is only a five minute walk away - aren’t I lucky?

The winding path took me through the open foray, past an enormous duck pond, boasting a gushing, double fountain, spraying aimlessly, then arching its creamy, frothy spray, back into the silent waters, as the glistening sun rays playfully bounced off the ever-increasing ripples, that reached for me, like a visual, sonic wave of burgeoning calm.

Ambling past this fiesta, motioned me across from slides, and climbing frames, as children carelessly frolicked up, and down giant pendulous swings, swaying to, and fro, like some mighty, prehistoric, outdoor timepiece, as their friends went round, and round the roundabout, all awhile, with a pungent odour of fresh oak, sauntering through the Summer air, as a fleeting lark bleeped her forgotten trill.

Continuing henceforth, led me past the circular, umbrage of a band-stand, resounding with the deathly hush of its silent orchestra, then this snaking path quickly wended its way onwards, past the joggers, as they passed me, puffing and wheezing, as yesterdays’ caloried, pastry delights, took their unforgiving revenge upon them; poodles chased toy dogs, with worried owners launching a beady, protesting eye on this unfair, canine assault. All the while, I caught the heady vista of giant Bonsai trees, nobly spreading extensions of wizened, teal, flattened fingers, across the backdrop canvas of a dreaming sky, whilst the sweet tang of honeysuckle enveloped my thankful senses, with its pleasing broadcast.

Oh Catherine…. The only thing needed to complete this quiet reverie, would have been you, my heart, hand melted in mine, gazing into your China-blue orbs of quartz perfection, as we gently kissed, and fell in love right there…….

      Your Only,

      Romeo

Soo.. I am saddened that I have not followed you before .. was it ever meant to be .. like finding a gem in your yard that you saw shining everyday... but did not pick it up for thinking it was not meant for you.

this poem is me .. a heartfelt stream of longing and love that only You or I really know ..how it pierces the soul with expression, a love that comes from deep within.

I could keep on writing but I still have many hubs of yours to peruse.. if they are as this gem.. I will keep falling in love with your never ending portraits of beauty, thought and words that I know are within me also.

Well hello again Cat. Seems we not only have our political rants...uh...writings (lol) in common, but also our love for writing poetry. For the second day in a row...I have been led to one of your hubs. After publishing my latest poem, I thought I would go read a few and there you were. Fate. Perhaps. I just clicked on the first title that sounded interesting. Nice attention grabbing title. We seem to write in very similar styles. I very much enjoyed your poem. Your use of imagery through emotion was spot on. I like what someone had to say above. Distance is nothing when someone means everything. That, of course, does not ease the longing to be with the one that you desire. Great job. I am going to enjoy reading more of your work :-) Have a wonderful day.

Well, it's certainly nice to meet you and what a treat to see you two times now, thanks! I could talk politics all day, but that's a conversation that seems to get people fired up so I've been sticking to the poetry and goofy stuff lately... lol, people seem to be a little more forgiving in those areas.

I can now say that I've been to your 'Allegiance' hub and very much enjoyed it, so I'll have to check out your poetry too. I don't know if I'm much of a poet, myself... but I know that it's a wonderful release for me and it's free therapy!

Thanks again for the visit and the very nice comment! Looking forward to seeing more of you!
