A Mother And Son Team
What Exactly Do You Mean?
A mother who has been a mother for as long as I can remember
Who has always been there through every problem that popped up
She never shied away
She stayed strong long after her children have grown
She did it out of love and as one proud mother knows she never has to explain
As the years passed she wasn't as fast
Her eyes weren't as sharp and she traded all her baby clothes in for just another moment
To do what mothers do best
Take care of not one but the whole nest
When we were in trouble she knew
If we made a mistake she would watch us carefully and wait
Then there was those loud and noisy fights
Where words were exchanged and our mothers were right
But we didn't understand and couldn't comprehend
How deep a mothers love goes
We still had a lot of learning and maturing to do
But as a mother she guided us and held her ground firm
Ever since we were kids when we were caught red handed with are hands in the cookie jar right before supper
There was no denying our mistakes and many faults
But are mothers seen right through us and often knew what we could or could not do
Mothers never get the recognition they deserve
For them it's not about serving the public and all the attention and awards
She has a family and that is her world where she keeps politics out
It is about protecting her young and then trusting them when they get older
Wishing and praying we have listened more
To what she was trying to teach us instead of crying when we didn't get our way
We knew she would never stand for it
Even though we tried stomping are feet and making a scene only once
Because she clearly made it known if it ever happens again
Well be so so sorry ....
That's a memory that will always play over and over in my head
Now when my mothers hair turns grey and she can't jump up and down on a chair or a stool
Getting up to reach into a cabnet or to hang a curtain or do all the chores she use to
I am here to help you for a change
Because I now know
When life seems a little more frustrating and doesn't work out the way I planned it
I think of you mom and what you had to go through
I am so proud to tell you
We are all blessed with the best mothers any child could want
As we grow older and see how hard things are
When mothers have always made everything look so easy and nothing ever stopped her
It is time to give all mothers an extra big hug and a kiss
For they are the big guns on any ship
When they are gone they will be truely missed
