A Poem About The Queensland Floods - By Sarah Masson

Updated on February 2, 2013

© Sarah Masson 2011

I wrote this poem last night as I couldn't stop thinking about the floods and the loss of life. Seeing the footage is unreal, it really does look like scenes from out of a movie. I just wanted to let the people of Queensland know that we are thinking of them and will support them in anyway that we can and to send a message of hope.

The rain came down in force, making a river out of land

It got deep so quickly, it got so out of hand

Panic set in and fear was all around

People are swimming where there used to be ground

Some lives have been lost and we will never forget

Houses and belongings vanished but there’s no time for regret

We rally together and lend a helping hand

We look out for our mates in this Down Under Land

Sending out all of our love and support

You are never far from our thoughts

Embrace the Autralian spirit to help get you through

We’re here for you with whatever we can do

....well your heartfelt writing style and content certainly embraces the Australian spirit - that is for sure!! I live in Canada by Lake Erie and have some good friends who live in Australia so naturally I have an emotional connection to this most terrible natural disaster ..... please stay well, keep thinking good thoughts and please allow us to see some more of your hubtastic writing .......

      Beautiful writing :)

I also hope the Victorian families (now) are managing with the flooding that is occurring there.

Hi Sarah, what a nice thought and a well written poem. I used to live in Brisbane in Albion which was hit by the floods. My mate and his wife bought a house in Fig Tree Pocket in a tennis racket shaped bend of the river. They sold up about twenty years ago and went back to the UK. Their old house would have been virtually submerged by water. It's a disaster on a massive scale and any assistance is worthwhile, so bravo to you.

Very beautiful! I love reading and writing poetry myself. I haven't actually put anything up on my hubs yet. This is wonderful. =)
