A Poem for My Son
Father and Son
A father's thoughts
To my son
Listen lad you ought to know,
A little bit of how men grow,
As you get older you will find,
Many changes, some unkind.
You’ll get taller, yes that’s true,
But there’s lots of other changes too.
You develop hair,
In places where,
Your manly bits are found,
Your voice will change,
And sound all strange
Now that’s a weird sound.
But more important you will find,
Changes of a different kind,
You’ll fall in love with some one who,
Is not your mum, you’ll love her too.
Someday soon, I’ll hear you say,
“I’m grown up Dad” and move away.
But just remember this advice,
You might have heard it, once or twice,
No matter what changes or where you go,
There’s something you should always know.
I love you son and always will,
Through thick and thin I’ll love you till,
One day I will die, but before I do,
Remember this because it’s true.
My life is fuller for what you give,
I have a purpose, a will to live,
To see you grow and become a man,
To do the things I know you can,
You will hear me shout out loud,
“That’s my boy, and I’m so proud”.
