A Poem to God: Who Am I?

Updated on March 28, 2013

Who Am I?

Father, who am I

That you would give your son?

Why did he have to die

For someone such as me?

You've suffered more for me

Than I ever have for you

And yet I still don't seem to get it

Please help me understand

What you want from me

There has got to be some greater plan

I am waiting, here I am

But please be patient with me

For I am only human

This is a beautiful prayer. We all are just human and prone to sin. God understands that. When we do the best we can, it will all come together someday. There are many things that i do not understand. There are many beliefs, i do not let that bother me, if we did we would be so confused. When you reach out to God in prayer, he listens and knows your heart. I hope you can find peace in knowing that God loves you and expects us to be happy in this life but first, we must love ourselves to be able to completely love others. I love your prayer. Please be happy my friend...Peace.

Thank you, always exploring. I am content for now. Obviously, not so much when I wrote this, but this was written over a decade ago. I just find that once in awhile it still applies. I have found that whenever life knocks me down, I am stronger for it when I eventually get back up. Some times are just easier than others to bounce back from.

You mentioned in a comment to me something about writing as well as I do....we all have talents....I can't write poetry like this. It's simply beyond me, and you do it so effortlessly, or so it seems. Jealous I am! Follow the glow of green north and you'll find me in Olympia. :)

It's okay, green is my favorite color! It's funny you say that, though, because poetry seems to require less effort than other writing forms. But I am working on it. My biggest issue with writing stories or essays or anything other than poetry is that it requires so much time and editing.
