A Poets Plea

Updated on June 19, 2013

I wanted to write ..for all to see

a certain lament ...

a poet's plea

The words they came,

the praise was there

love was all around...hanging everywhere

With my heart released...

my head held so high

that is when I truly saw

the real falseness of pride

The new was gone..like the blowing breeze

listening to the stillness

I would have taken any noise ..

even a sneeze

Now only the grass... held me close

save no words to say

my soul was broken

there I lay

Wishing hoping, looking at the sky

Dare I not ...

close my tired eyes

For when the crows...

go flying by

they land and pluck out

my swollen sigh's

hoping once again

for my soul to rise

Michael, this is a battle I fought for years. I had to let go of pride and reinvent myself before I could find true happiness. You said it perfectly in this lovely poem.

      blessings my friend

"Pride goeth before the fall"...."my soul was broken"...you have captured the desolation pride can lead to. Beautifully done my friend,k with each word stabbing at the soul.

They say the wings of a poet are within their words taking flight with insight, and that you did fly here.

This was different, maybe a touch of the spirit of Frank in it, lol. It is important to not get trapped in a certain writing mode, I agree. It leaves us free to go anywhere and sometimes have a surprise! Very good. ^

Faith ..my loyal friend and inspirational muse, thank you for the comment. your observations are always spot on.. I feel that when all poets in trying to evolve... lose their voice that they want to use, and then have ahard time finding themselves after that.

      Pride is very deceptive ..

Love you always for the kindness..

Sometimes what we think should be the only thing that matters...but it is not always so....you expressed that well.

      Brilliant Dearest Michael!!!

Yes, when we realize that it is pride (self-worship), it hits us like nothing else, and knocks us to the very ground!!!

We are all guilty of such, and it is only when we truly "die to self" then we begin to show our true hearts and self and able to love others unconditional without our selfish desires truly disguised.

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

God bless you. In His Love Always, Faith Reaper
