A Prayer of Forgiveness and Release

Updated on April 19, 2014
Source

The ability to forgive is essential to moving forward in life and being forgiven by God. When you choose to hold onto the hurt, you only punish and imprison yourself. The following prayer poem was written for a spiritual retreat as an encouragement to help participants release the pain of unforgiveness. Let the prayer settle in your spirit and allow God to soften your heart and eliminate the resistance so that you can be free.

Beloved Almighty Healer
and Sovereign Creator
of the universe;

Let your will, as it is in heaven,
be done in all the earth.

To the Son, Lord Jesus,
the anointed one
and ruler of my heart;

In you, I am forgiven and
have received a prosperous
new start.

Precious Holy Spirit,
my comforter and peace;

Thank you for continual revelations
of all the negative and hindering
things I must release.

I surrender my life totally–
Heart, mind, body and soul;

Search me, purge me,
and cleanse me
of past issues I have yet to let go.

I confess all erroneous thinking,
poor choices and actions
not aligned with You,

Which resulted in
unpleasant consequences
that were challenging to survive through.

I now release pain, hurt, trauma and
the disappointment in my life,

Forgiving self first and then all others
I perceived as contributors to my experiences of strife.

I petition You, Lord, with this heartfelt prayer of forgiveness and release,

And trust that the healing and wholeness begun in me will be made complete.

For past, present, and future
Healing on deeper levels,
I thank you in Jesus name.

And So It Is! Amen.

Be blessed,

Jo Anne Meekins

      Simply beautiful, but how can we forgive others if they don't even ask for it? How can we release what's not acknowledge?

      Thx Cris SP. It's a choice that is more for our benefit than theirs. Someone likened unforgiveness to taking poison and expecting the other person to die. Most times the other person does not remember the offense or does not care, either way they go about their merry way, while the person who chooses to hold the grudge is eaten alive from the inside out. Unforgiveness left me with regret and manifested as physical ailments. I choose to walk in LOVE as God exemplified and commands. It's healthier, makes me happier and keeps me in right relationship with God.

      Inspired 4 U, It is so critical to choose to forgive. If only everyone were able to understand that it is powerful to forgive and releases us from chains of bitterness, pain, anguish, and sets us free to move forward to receive more healing.

      Thank you for this reminder. Bless you abundantly, sister.

      Hello Inspired 4 U. Wonderful prayer, much needed for those who are unable to move forward from pain, hurt, and resentment. It is all about healing and letting go, in His name and power to heal. You've captured all the elements well in this prayer. Voted up, useful, and beautiful.

      Thank you Janshares! And God answers prayer when we ask with an open, honest and repentent heart, believing that all things are possible and trusting Him to help our unbelief. He is a balm in Gilead, a healer and burden bearer. Hallelujah!
