By: Wayne Brown

I hear the sound of gentle rain

Collecting in puddles outside

I see drops on window panes

Toward the ground they glide

Birds huddled in treetop dens

Await the passing of the rain

Soon they know it will end

And they may fly once again

Puddles collect on asphalt streets

Drains carry the excesses away

The earth is bathed in rained sheets

Then dried by the sunlight of day

People with umbrella and raincoats

Out in the rain but yet not quite

Move about like drifting boats

Tossed on waters foaming white

It is a nice time for being inside

To gaze on the damp proclivity

The clouds will pass in time abide

And folks return to their activity

Plants and life will be renewed

By the coming of the precious rain

Memory sustains what we viewed

‘Til gentle rain returns once again

Well, living in Washington, I can certainly associate with this poem. Very well done sir; if you lived here you would have many such days to reflect. :)

@Pamela99...Rain can cure a lot of ugliness...I saw that with the aftermath of Mt. St. Helens. The earth has such extreme power to heal itself...I think mankind gives himself far too much credit for power over it. Thanks much, Pam. WB

@writer20...Yes, I go there for work at can be painful! I have also been in the rain there...a rarity even more so than here I think. Thanks much. WB

@swb78...So glad that I could create that effect as you read the words. Happy that you enjoyed it. Thanks much! WB

      @Vellur...THANK YOU! WB

@Gypsy Rose Lee..Thank you, I struggled a bit finishing this one but I gave it time and things seem to find their place. WB

@Hypenbird...Thank you! It's good to know that someone wants to read my stuff! WB

I look forward to seeing your name in my email because I can count on quality and a sweet surprise. In this one, I find the peaceful feeling that rain brings to me and especially love the "treetop den" wording.

Awwww voted up and awesome. You made my rainy day morning much gladder and as I finished your wonderful poem the sun came out. Wow you're a great poet being able to give me that rainy day feeling and then bringing the sun out. It all combined so well.

Like you in Texas rain is sparse just like here in Vegas.

      Voted up and beautiful.

Lovely poem. We have finally had rain off and on over the last 3 days after a long dry spell with some wild fires. Everything is already greener and flowers are blooming. Rain is wonderful. Voted up.

Ah! It has just rained outside and your poem has just increased the ecstasy I feel ... luring myself in the earthly smell of soil and water... and watching the puddles smudge themselves...

      Beautiful Sir!

Wayne - Great poetry. Though I must observe that lately out here the rains haven't been too gentle. But we have been getting some.

@Just Ask Susan...This one has been sitting here for a couple of least the first four lines. I wrote them on a rainy Saturday but the rain went away before I could finish the inspiration. Today I looked at it and everything just came together. Just another lesson in not tossing things away too soon. Thanks much, Susan. And, yes...Van is the man...very talented. WB

Really nice poem. I've always enjoyed the rain. Excellent song choice too. Van is the man!
