Where to invest all of that great talent?

Most writers on the web belong to multiple websites to make passive income. Each site has its own advantages and disadvantages and no one is perfect for everyone. With this in mind scour the web to find one which works best for you personally.

The choice is difficult with so many to choose from. Therefore, make certain to do the homework for each. Make an informed decision about which ones to join. It is terrible to waste valuable time as a writer by putting out great work with a site that doesn't work out for passive earning.

Along with Suite 101 there is Squidoo, Webanswers and so many others. Hubpages is one of the best on the web, but don't put all of the writing eggs in one basket.

Amazon always comes through with useful material when you need it. This is a useful handbook full of info on magazine article writing.

Review a site before joining. Find out if it is a good fit for your talents and expertise.

Are you thinking of writing for Suite 101? Find out more about a possible working arrangement before committing.

This is a personal two cents worth. Having an opinion does more than simply state the facts about a content site is actually more valuable than most writer's think. To gain the simple facts about a writing site, visit a webpage. This Hub gives much more. It happens to be the right place for a personal viewpoint and thoughts about this particular company based on pros, cons and input from other writers around the web along with myself.

Why Join a Writing Site

Online opportunities at different article content sites are generally explored for passive income from a communities publications. Although most become members to increase income, there are other qualifications which make one site better over another.

What procedures or regulations have more importance than others or possibly make or break a connection differs for everyone. Along with getting more money in a pocket, other policies sometimes play a large part for countless writers when it comes to an affiliation.

Differences among writing sites

A few become a member because they like how the company runs a specific area of the business. The majority of writing sites around the web all look the same in this regard by having similar guidelines. Yet, there are a few with nice distinctions in several areas of membership.

A few companies have a quick and easy approval and editing process. Material finds its way to print faster than the competition.

Variations on a general simple form of editing software include fellow members looking over material or individual editors assigned to specific members to oversee work. There are companies who go as far as a one on one relationship for learning and advancement.

Sharing income

A handful offer a variety of advertising incentives for revenue sharing. Revenue sharing policies are a major deciding factor. Earning potential for some articles lasts for years. How much money a writer keeps from a great article varies a lot in certain circles.

Referrals from friends and contacts play an enormous role in joining or not. A good word from a trusted friend goes a long way. The opinion of a certain veteran means more than a review from a stranger.

All of these things are combined with insight before affiliation begins. Always find out more whenever possible about any company.

About Suite 101

Suite 101 is an article writing site popular with a lot of different writers around the web. This private Canadian based company has been online for over 13 years with 20,000 different writers and 17 million readers. To become a member of the team it is necessary to submit an application and wait for approval.

The website has been updated and changed to make it more sleek and clean looking. In September of 2013 a new group of writers and editors bought out the previous owners and implemented personal changes. The mission of the business was identified as the beginning of one of the web's first blogging platforms.

How to Apply

This particular community is one of a handful with an application process. A distinction is made between being invited and simply joining. Instead of an easy sign up, creating a profile and immediately beginning to publish content, Suite 101 accepts or rejects a writer after the application process.

Applying includes submitting two different writing samples each with a maximum of 600 words. Describe skills and expertise possessed which come along with a member to the Suite. Along with professional proficiency it is important if and where a writer's material has been published.

One interesting question is asking a writer to share whatever they want to say as a writer in the Suite 101 community. This is an unusual request and rarely if at all seen in an application practice with competitors.

Company management or editors review applications and within 48 hours advise a prospective applicant if they are strong enough as a writer to warrant an offer of a contract. Within a couple of days an applicant knows if they made the cut as a member of the community.

How much will a writer earn

This is a revenue sharing article content site. The income sharing procedure is set up to operate similar to sites like Triond. Page views are important to earnings. The payment is approximately $1.50 for every 1000 page views a piece of content receives. The more page views the more money is made.

Pros of membership

There are not a lot of outstanding advantages with belonging to the site. The revenue sharing prospect is certainly a plus, but it is no different from other writing sites. This does not distinguish them from the rest. They really do not present a better earnings plan than other writing sites. It is along the same lines as similar others for estimated earning potential.

Google's Panda update reduced the traffic to the site which lowers the amount of readers coming to content which continues to lower the ability to make money on published material. The shrink is estimated to at least 60%. More than a few writers admit they are unable to sustain a hit this large and continue to belong and contribute work.

Terrific looking website

The website is exceptionally clean. There is an enormous picturesque scene of people crossing a board and plank bridge in gigantic park. The greenery is extraordinary.

A brief overview of the employees of the company are spelled out along with personal credentials. There are pictures of the company's workers to accompany each small portfolio.

Learning opportunities

Numerous freelance writers state the only thing gained from writing for Suite 101 versus other article content sites was the opportunity to learn. Work is critiqued by a variety of experienced web writers and editors.

They give detailed feedback and criticism of writing material and subject matter selected. The info given as feedback is used to create better articles in the future. This is really ingenious. If they have a vetting process to only accept terrific writers to the site, is anything gained by accepting less than perfect?

Great forum

They do have a wonderful forum. Forums have been discontinued from some similar competitors. These are terrific platforms for networking, learning and building friendships among other affiliates.

What are some of the cons of joining

After reading about the submission process, application and approval some folks have doubts whether this particular business relationship is worth the trouble. Scores of writers believe so.

Only wonderful articles benefit

The revenue sharing is an advantage for only those folks investing fantastic articles capable gaining a high search engine ranking. The more page views the better the paycheck.

Panda has writers moving away

This is a content or article site countless writers advise to take a pass on. Many experienced employees have taken writing talent elsewhere after Google's Panda cut the sites traffic by 60%. This is an enormous drop in revenue, especially for passive income which is a large part of how writers make money online. This could explain the turnover in the company ownership.

Detailed info on joining the team missing

The website does not offer any material on linking to an application page or detailed material on joining the team. This is an easy oversight easily corrected. The faster it takes place the better.

This is a must for bringing in new writers. A terrific website layout such as this company's missing detailed info is an oversight which needs an immediate correction. The average writer doesn't have time to guess or fool around when it comes to things like this.

What makes them different from others

They offer a lot of tips and tricks for online article marketing and promotion. There is nothing outstanding about the company to persuade a number of writers from leaving current favorite sites and devote time to Suite 101. There is nothing to pop out or stand up and shout come join this team over another.

In conclusion

Overall there is not a lot of outstanding attributes to bring a writer to this site. With a new owner in place for less than a year and the enormous reduction in traffic, the truth is they could disappear soon. Before making a major change in a professional writing career.

If you are currently a member of Suite 101 and would like to provide some feedback for readers, please feel free to do so.

Your opinion counts.

If you haven't already done so, come and join me here at Hubpages. The passive income is wonderful, the community terrific and many more benefits for freelance writers driving toward success.

I've never written for Suite 101 although I've read a lot about it as well as about other revenue sharing sites. I tried making money with Hubpages, Seekyt and Wizzley but didn't have much success there and that's why I gave up on writing. It was simply too much work and the reward was poor. What I find so great is that you can meet such great people on these websites, make friends, hear different opinions on different subjects and learn something.

I remember the excitement when I was accepted to write about dogs for Suite 101 many years ago. The contract back then required that I wrote at least a few articles every 3 months or so if I recall well. This site like hubpages and many others was then hit hardly by Google and is still trying to recover. The site went through a renovation recently and I was invited to write again for them, but I am really not sure what to do. I am often intimidated by new, drastic changes and feel a bit lost.

As of November 2013, Suite101 is no longer a revenue-sharing site for new submissions.

Just my personal opinion, it's probably not worth it to try applying in this site. First, they have to make sure you're a good writer, then the revenue sharing process is just the same as Triond?

Nevertheless, this is a great informative hub. Thanks for the review of the site.

I did look into some of these sites previously. It appeared that the application process might be more work than it is worth.

Good information -- Can't imagine going through all that to be "accepted" and earn $1.50 for 1,000 views -- hopefully there's still lots of freelancers that value themselves more than that. On the other hand if one gathers up $1.50 enough times there's money to be made -- in the end, as you said, personal choice. Best, Sis
