A Stranger's Presence

Updated on November 4, 2014

By: Wayne Brown

The quiet solitude of an early morning at the edge of the forest

Where soft rain has fallen through the night

The wind has lost its presence and the air is vacant of all sound

Peace and solitude reign supreme in this tiny space

The dampened ground offers no resistance to my treading feet

The sun not yet peeking from beyond the clouds

This wetness is evident all about as droplets still hang on pine needles

No voices of protest are recorded on the wind

Birds lingering in the tree branches; still quiet in their nighttime roost

Insects crawl about the dampened respite

Quiet is all about and all witnessing it remain silent in awe

This tiny world is in balance and at peace in the moment

I slowly move to the edge of the trees; respecting the silence there

A stranger attempting to be invisible amidst

I feel the chill of early morning in the air; damp from nighttime rain

I feel serenity and a oneness with time in this place

The sun slowly emerges from the curtain of the clouds so thick above

Rays of light streak the treetop canopy

The sun’s warmth has joined this peaceful spot with respectful solace

Nature is in harmony in this beautiful moment in the world

I take my leave as quietly as I have come; not wishing to break the pact

Silence holds this moment in nature together

Slowly I move back away from this serene place of natural beauty

Feeling the presence of God’s Amazing Grace as I return to my world

Very beautiful Wayne, to experience those moments with nature is so far and few between. I felt like I was there, one with nature.

@tnderhrt23...Thank you, I just wrote down what came to me lilne by line. WB

@marellen...It was time for something that did not rhyme. I am a rhymer by function so writing non-rhyming poetry for me is difficult. I have to substitution emotion for rhyme. Sometimes I get lucky! LOL! WB

@pearlmacb...Wow! Thank you for those great comments! WB

@Binaya.Ghimire...Just as I intended it! LOL! WB

Beautiful descriptions, makes one feel like we are there seeing the same things you are.. The picture is beautiful and i loved your choice of video (Of course who does not like Emmylou Harris?)

The silence, as they say, is deafening. You've captured that time to perfection Wayne. I felt my feet sinking into the dew soaked, rain sodden grass. Smelt the Pine trees and longed for the rising sun. Brilliant!

This is the first time I've been to your Hub Page Wayne and I so Enjoyed reading your Beautiful and Descriptive Poem which made me feel like I was there too. It was such an Intimate walk with Nature...A real treat for the eyes to read and visualize. I look forward to Following your Hubs. I hope you will check me out as well.

@thebluestar...Thank you. I never gave this one much thought. I just had this vision of something similar to that picture in my head and I started writing...a ten minute deal. Sometimes I get lucky! WB

@d. william...Thank you for those kind words. The picture I envisioned in my words was apparently a gift from God and of course....well the video was Emmy Lou...as you say, we all love her. WB

@attemptedhumor...Silence..I think that is the part that most pulled this thing together for me. To see all of nature in total silence for just a small space on earth and at the same time realize that it is also at peace. WB

@b. Marlin...Thanks you so much. I hope that you will return and read again along with offering your great comments. WB

God's Amazing Grace and the heavenly voice of Emmy Lou Harris combined with the words of a poet. It does not get any better than this. Thanks Wayne.

Not only could I hear the silence. I also smelled in the air as the breezes sent these wonderful scents from the wetness, greens, trees, leaves, moss and ferns. I was in Heaven, as that is where Heaven may be, in mother nature.

I felt at peace listening to Emmylou. I yearned to go back as well to a better time, when all was good with out earth. peace my brother.

@saddlerider1...See, there are some nice places outside the cave, Ken. LOL! So glad you enjoyed it and gained some solace from it...those are my rewards in writing it. WB

@Hui...Sometimes the price of doing that is to simply open our eyes and our minds a little wider and see our world around us. There are still some pools of tranquility in this sea of chaos we live in...we just have to look for them. WB

@Pollyannalana...Thank you. I just wrote what I felt in my heart on this one...visions coming into my head that were the summation of many experiences in life. WB
