A Shattering Heart

Updated on April 29, 2014

There's a need that is so profound

To simply topple to the ground

Finally alone at long last

My heart is free to shatter too like glass

No one else to watch and no one else to know

Of the tears that I cannot control

But it's a mess that I myself have made

There is no one else to blame

So may these tears quietly heal

All that i do not wish to feel

All it is that I cannot share

Things I wish nobody else to bear

Then I will quickly dry my eyes

And hope that no one else can see what I keep inside

Hopelessness is like a black hole but hope is a lifeline and that depending on what you hope for in which there is no shame.

Hi Benson. Nice to meet you. No, there is never a loss of hope for anyone, I hope. And most definitely never any shame in hope.

Awww sweetie! Sooo heart-wrenching! I hope this isn't a reflection of how you feel because you are bright and beautiful and talented - and the whole world LOVES you!

Aw, thanks Leslie! I am quite certain the whole world does not love me - but, I appreciate the sentiment!

How many times I feel like this! Even some memories makes me feel like this. We don't want to be weak, and yet we are. We don't want others to see us weak, and yet, sometimes we are just too weak to pretend that we are strong.

And so, eventually, I have decided to not allow myself to feel miserable. Because I am but only a human being. I simply block those feelings and thoughts that make me want to crawl into a dark corner. Not easy! But practise makes perfect. And tomorrow is another day to try again.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Shanmarie! After all, every human being lives a life of quiet desperation. (Can't remember whose winged words are these.)

Great poem, clearly felt and understood....

Wise words, Martie. Every day is new and sometimes breaking restores the strength. Sometimes one must break first and accept the feelings before being able to choose to let go.

The only shame in despair is letting it control you. Being human means having all feelings, acknowledging those feelings and learning to understand them. Life is not always hard times but there are hard times in life. Peace be with you always.

I agree. There is no shame in despair. People hide feelings from others for many reasons, though, sometimes unrelated to shame. Peace be with you, too!

I like how you compare a broken heart to shattered glass. It is very fragile and can easily be broken. Luckily it can usually be repaired though. All the best.

Thank you, Jodah. Yes, luckily a heart is repaired more in whole than any shattered glass can ever be.

When one's heart is broken, it feels like the end, but it isn't, one path comes to the crossroad and another journey begins. You have to feel deeply to be able to write such poignant and beautiful poetry. Take care, I hope you're well.

Aww. . .thanks, tobusiness. I do feel deeply, but those kinds of moments always pass. And, as a flip side to that. . .I more often feel joy just as deeply!

I am glad to read that you feel joy more than sadness. Like Martie said, " We all want to crawl in a dark corner sometimes. " I have had that kind of day. My sister Mary fell and broke her shoulder and my sister Eva is critical, she is not expected to live, hospice is taking care of her. It has got to get better. Be happy my friend...

I counsel that it is OK to be shattered for a spell. Be it and Feel it and then grow from it and with it into a new you, a better you. But walk do not run. Do not ignore the shattered shards and no not try to put them back together. By day and night stand tall again in new skin given you freely.

      Great job on this one.

Ruby, friend, I am so sorry to hear of what you are going through. It is especially hard to face the loss of a loved one, even when it is expected. But rest assured there is always hope and tomorrow is a new day. Lots of hugs.

Seems to be sound advice to me, Eric. I don't think shattered pieces can be put back together if one tries. It is very much more like having been replaced with a new heart, perhaps just as fragile but stronger too in many other ways.

There is no pain like the ache of a broken heart. You did a great job expressing it in this poem.

It hurts to even read this. I hope you aren't writing about yourself. I have some family members who are depressed, and it hurts to watch them suffer.

Oh, goodness, no, I am not depressed. Trust me. I mean, like every single human being, I have had and do sometimes have my moments, but I am not clinically depressed. I know what you mean, though, it is hard to watch a loved one suffer that way and not be able to make it better for that person. Thank you for your compassion, MizBejabbers.

      Dear Shan,

I missed this deeply heart-wrenching poem here. You have expressed yourself well here when it is during those times there is no one but the One who holds our every tear and knows our every fear, thoughts, pain and heartache. What we would never speak of to another, He surely knows. The video is perfect for this poem and so beautiful, just like you.

      Hugs
