A Sleepless Self-Giver: Dedicated to Hub Pages by Manatita

Updated on July 2, 2014

Manatita is an esteemed author living in London, UK. He writes spiritual books, flash fiction and esoteric poetry, his favourite genre.

I feel inspired and empowered to write something about Hub Pages, by the exquisite ease and charming style in which Ms Dora has done so. I have suggested to her that she deserves some accolades from Hub Pages, but I doubt very much that this motivates her in her loving quest to pay homage to such a significant sister/brother/friend relationship. Take note, Hub Pages, for as well as being an excellent writer, this lady displays a remarkable and beautiful soul.

So who is Hub Pages? They are – according to me – sleepless self-givers and Victory-Banner-Carriers, from various walks of life, which have come together to serve humanity, in myriad fields of endeavour.

A Sleepless Self-giver 1

What is a sleepless self-giver?

“A sleepless self-giver, says the remarkable peace dreamer Sri Chinmoy, ‘is another name for God’s Victory-banner.

A sleepless self-giver is God’s Victory-banner carrier. A sleepless self-giver is God’s Dream-fulfiller.”

What has Hub Pages been doing? Well, they have been God’s Victory-banner; His message-carrier, and His Dream-fulfiller for many years. They do so, by allowing an unconditional platform via Hub Pages, so that Hubber’s: writers, journalists and poets, can showcase their talent to a worldwide audience. Many a time I have benefited from Hub Pages, either through receiving inspiration or giving inspiration. This I know because of Hub Pages database of friendly people, who constantly read and supply info to the feedback column.

A Sleepless Self-giver 2

Hub Pages work ceaselessly day and night to not only offer quality work, but are constantly – in the spirit of self-transcendence – seeking new and innovative ways, to go beyond themselves. This they do with the true spirit of unconditional offering. They charge me nothing, and in my view, show great patience with those who would spoil an otherwise beautiful Hub. I commend them for their spirit of excellence, tolerance, fair play and spirit of discernment.

Their versatility is second to none, and this enables me to gain knowledge in the field of health, nutrition, science and politics among many others, not to mention the ever-increasing specialist subjects, from which so many of us are uplifted in our lives. I feel that Hub Pages have lived and are living up to the lofty message of this 21st Century’s global man as described beneath thus:

“When you feel that what you gain from your aspiration is for humanity at large, then your heart becomes wide and receptive” –Sri Chinmoy.

I am in the UK, but I talk to or write to people in India, America, Australia and many other places, all because Hub Pages have made this possible through their fan base, and easily read Hubs. This enables me to reach others within minutes if not seconds sometimes.

A Sleepless Self-Giver3

Music can help us to be self-giving

Self-giving expands the Heart

Are you a selfless giver?

See results

When does Hub Pages do all this? When do they not? I ask. I tend to visit them in the mornings, evenings and sometimes at odd times at nights. This is so invaluable in the modern world in which one lives. They are non-complaining, good friends/neighbours that I can talk to, and are always available.

How do they do this? Well, I have my favourite. While I like writing Hubs in prose and poetry, I also visit the ‘hot questions’ or ‘forums’ which they provide, as they sometimes give me an excellent opportunity to express myself. I can also engage in healthy dialogue as and when the need arises, something which for most of us is satisfying to know.

Hub Pages grants me an audience which is large and varied, not only in culture but in terms of interests. I particularly enjoy the fields of religion, philosophy and spirituality, as well as Yoga, and it is in these areas, that I write most of my Hubs.

Why do Hub Pages do this? I have no idea of how finance works, but I suspect that for them it is rewarding in that sense also. This is only natural. Still, it is always nice to know that one is admired and appreciated, and that a great bunch of people are always there, trying to inspire and to improve the lives of others. This is what my favourite visionary has to say about sleepless self-givers:

"Although there have been few,

Very few in number,

Mother-earth is extremely happy

To have such sleepless self-givers.

Give; you become. Give; you are.

Do not give; you are lost,

Do not give; you are dead.

Give and give and give

Only to the Supreme in humanity.” – Sri Chinmoy.

Hub Pages, you avail yourselves for me and numerous others. You are my ceaseless and selfless day and night crew. For you I am full of admiration. - Manatita, 23rd May, 2014.

Oh, yes, dear friend, there are many whose groups they've founded which are excellent and provide great services to others in their quests in their writing. Billy is certainly one I admire thoroughly, along with several others whose innovativeness and diligence awe me! There are also some who left HP, did well, and returned here, keeping up both their other venues and their HP presences.

Like most things, it's not all black and white and I apologize if I seemed to suggest it is. I simply shared my own personal preferences - at least so far and now. Others have preferences and goals which are better served in more varied ways. It's wonderful to be able to exercise one's own choices and to pursue one's own objectives. Mine are no model for others!

      Well Nellieanna.

That was a very sweet thing to say. Let us hope that they are listening and reading.

Yes, the commercial thing pushes people. Billy, I believe, have started a group with some very altruistic people and does well, but he still remains here. Good on him. Much peace this Sunday and BH week-end.

Excellent accolade for Hubpages, as well as for MsDora.

During my over 4 years on HP, I've seen some changes, some for the better and some, perhaps not, depending on one's purposes for being here. For me, the less-preferred changes are really insignificant: things like less freedom with how one arranges one's lines of poetry! :-) But the consistent values I found right away when I reluctantly joined that March of 2010, have not diminished.

It's saddened me that for some, the changes or other issues caused them to abandon HP and to seek their writing expression elsewhere. Some of those were among my favorite writers, and I have been invited to follow them. Yet I am not really lured away. I have my own extensive webpage, so the idea of starting my own 'blog' is not compelling, nor is the idea of joining someone else's. I found the writing venue here that fits well. I can create my own hubs and receive feedback from fellow-writers, colleagues and friends whose comments I value.

I tend to agree with the homey philosophy in the story when someone is moving to a new town and asks whether it's a good place he will like. The answer is a question: "Do you like where you are now?" If it is 'yes', then the answer is that you'll like where you're going. If 'no', then you probably won't like the new location, either.

HP is an incredible opportunity for someone like I, who simply wants to write and share, whose motivation is not commercial or fame, but in truly sharing with an amazing array of others who also see those values.

Perhaps one day I'll want to publish and pursue that commercial path, but it is not my preference now.

Thank you, Manatita, for your astute summary of the good that is to be found in HubPages and its similarity to individuals who are 'Sleepless Self-Giivers'.

Where else could we write and have our own page in the manner HP provides? I have tried others, they were not for me. When i first started writing, i was lost in a sea of uncertainty. I had the desire to write but knew very little about putting a story together. Hubbers came to my rescue and helped me all the way, there were also times when HP told me to shine up a hub to get it featured, i listened and learned. This is home and here i will stay. Glad you feel the same manatita...

This s an old Hub, my Sweet. It was initially called Hub Pages: A Sleepless Self-Giver. Inspired by Ms Dora. It contained pictures of the Hub Pages Team. They seem to have disappeared, so I have now re-launched the Hub with different pics.

Happy that you approve. With a clear mind, you have definitely felt my love. Sweet dreams.

Thanks for the mention, Manatita. That is as good as an accolade from HubPages.

I can relate to the pleasure of connections on this site. Great articles to read, and a wonderful spirit of sharing and support from you and other sleepless self-givers.

Long live HubPages and all the good it stands for!
