A Small Life
Your life is small
the way you brag and boost
of money
for little work and toil
brag about some gala
of celebrities galore
of which they never
see you
over layers of misfortune
false ways
and stolen ideas.
No they don't
really know you,
making your quest
for exclusion
all the more sad.
Every job
not won by merit
but begging others
to say a good word or two,
cashing in favors
of people you drop like trash.
Your joy in life
is dangling a carrot
of what you think
someone might want
or need
like some kind of ray
of false hope
for the stricken
to try to keep a connection
from people who have long
moved on.
It is not your fault
you don't really know
what is going on
or how to ask
of another.
So how could you know
just how much
no one needs you
or thinks of you.
Though you fill a room
with your gluttony,
your life is small.
