A Stream Without Worth

Updated on January 15, 2012

The beginning

And the end

Are but one

One and the same

When time is but

A word, an illusion

When love is but

Conditionally given

When fear and anger

Overpower the best

The best we may offer

When will we see

The light, the hope

At dark tunnels’ ends?

Or feel the cool rush

Of the wind on our skin?

And the smiles we show

Become how we feel

Become more than a moment

Turn from dreams to the real

When will the emptiness

Cease to fill all we are?

And the sadness, in floods

Finally fade and subside?

My heart, numb at times

A stream, left to dry

Will struggle to find

The answers to questions

Only found when we die

This house is empty, aside from me and my thoughts, and the shots that I’ve drunk, and the dreams I can’t dream, and swirling masses of things, things unchanging, things unattained, that which I seek, remains yet unnamed, and I sit, and her image floods the screen, and her voice lingers still in my ears, and I wait, and I write, then ignite, yet another cigarette, and the smoke hurts my lungs, and my lungs beg for mercy, but I grant to them none, because at some point, between my birth and my death, my health became trivial,

my well-being so…eh…who really cares, after all?

I just sit here, and write, and let my body waste, to become like my mind, so it looks like my heart, resembles my art, chaotic, shapeless, black and white. Colors don’t become me, for I can’t seem to see them, I can’t seem to feel them, I can’t seem to dream them…not anymore, I just want to create them, out of ashes, out of nothing, to form beauty, in the darkness, to make love, out of death…

I have wishes of having even a thin book of my own poetry too. I have to work on more...published online or not. It has always been a wish since I was in high school when writing poems was almost an every day thing in my journal. A book of poems is really a lovely achievement to self and a beautiful gift to give away.

I love the message in this poem, Ben. Man still strives for answers to this very will never cease for there are many things in life in ourselves and in the world that are unsolved. Mysteries and questions of what we have become, the events and feelings that affect us every single day brings us face to face with a mirror and ask questions. This is an insightful poem; love the webbing of words and it is deep-toned as well. Hope life does not fully resemble an abyss. There is always an answer to every question if we strive to seek it.

Awesome! I'd like to share this poem in my Facebook page ~Passionate Poetry. Cheers!

p.s. I have just joined your group on FB.

Ben, it's a true beauty. Though the subject is really deep and thoughtful, intense and emotionally introspective - you told it in such impressive expressions that it takes my breath away. I'd say, been there, done that, but heck, if I ever thought so vividly and insightful... This is a work of art.

Scarily dark stuff BenWritings... Beautiful, and very evocative in the way you put your verses together, but nonetheless scary dark. Your words touched me; hopefully they are not autobiographical...

Good luck with your book publishing ^_^

      Take care
