A Summer's Blues - A Love Poem

Updated on June 12, 2014

Sure, I could write a love song

Strum away a summer’s blues

Sing away our memories

Cry until it soothes

Would it make a difference?

To my heart, it turns to stone

Cold, heavy, and lifeless

Lost. Scared. Alone.

The bottle from which I drink

Drowns me within this pain

Loving you goes down smooth

Being without you, isn’t the same

My emotions an unsettled sea

As I recall what now is our past

Once we had a future

I know, not meant to last

The music that plays are my thoughts

Strumming strong, against my soul

In my mind you dance close to me

For a moment, I am whole

How much more can I do to express?

I have nothing more to prove

I didn’t make this choice

But had so much to lose

So as I stand here wondering

How our love just came and went?

Time doesn’t mean a thing

It is the quality that we’ve spent

For so long, I have loved you

Holding onto wondrous years

Remembering your sweet smile

As I’m washed away in tears

This ache just carries on

Fresh, as each new day

Hoping you’ll return

As I strum away

This poem is amazing, angoliver. It captured my eye as I wrote a hub-poem-just today. I've read a heart-sister's words.

      Thank you,

      Laurel

~If you want to see my poem,

      It's titled "Love Lost: a Poem".~

No link to the hub, 'tis a no-no, they say.

So glad to find a kindred spirit,

      Laurel

What a stunning poem. Rhymes just flow so nice here. The mood and the feeling is all too real. "Strum away a summer's blues..." Wow, your use of words is so impressive. You remind me of lyric poets a lot, of which I am also.

You have a musical quality to your work, Angela. This poem has a universal truth inherent in its words and meaning. Deserves to be widely read. :)

Hi Cathy, this poem does really seem to feel real. I feel as if the reader can almost imagine being in this situation and feel the pain of a relationship ending, almost as if their own hearts and thoughts are poured out before them. I have been writing for years and I always try to give it straight from the heart, and set a mood in which one can relate. Thanks for enjoying my work, I really appreciate it! I really look forward to reading your writing as well!!
