A Woman with a Heart of Gold

Updated on July 26, 2013

She was the woman

Who taught him about life

The one who was there

When he needed her the most

She was the one

Who was there during his first love

And there when he started school

She was the aunt he didn’t have

The one he could turn to

When he couldn’t talk to his mom

His friends adored her

And learned so much about life

She seemed to know it all

From beginning to end

His parents doted on her

When he was still little

They knew with her he’d always be safe

How he’d cried when he didn’t know how to swing

And how many times had they both fallen

When the training wheels came off of his bike

He grew up adoring this woman

When his children came along

She’d sing them the sweetest lullabies

There wasn’t a day that she cried

The happiest and dearest woman

That had filled their hearts

The day the angles came

She quietly passed away

And he built a monument

To the woman

He’d remember forever more

For awhile in the dark of night

He could hear her singing

And his children would say

That often she came to watch over them

When the sun shone brightly

He knew she was smiling upon them

And when the stars came out at night

He knew she’d be with them always

Till they would one day meet again

So often a favorite aunt has more influence than mom. I am always totally surprise when my nephews and nieces and also others tell me what I have said and done that have changed their perspective and attitude. We lead by example...

This poem reminds me of all my special aunts. Thanks, Gypsy :)
