A World Filled with Beauty

Sometimes we Forget to See the Beauty all Around us

Time Slips Past and Sometimes we Forget to See.

Due to the progress of what they couldn't stop.

They allowed her outside to the world she had forgot.

She gazed at the sky with it's white cotton clouds.

One shaped as a dragon being chased by a mouse.

Her nose knowing only the hospice smell.

Breathed in sweet lavender, as her heart swelled.

She felt the warm sun stroking pale, thin skin.

Bird calls mingling on softly blown wind.

She slipped off soft slippers,

Placing cold feet on hot stones.

Her mind wandering over all she had known.

Given a yellow cushion to rest at her back.

Ice filled water and digestible snack.

She gazed at them kindly as they fussed all around.

Their voices of concern a far distant sound.

She sipped at the water and picked at the food.

Trying to eat some so they would feel good.

She sat for a long time eyes closed, shut tight.

Knowing that moment all would be right.

'Time to come in now, its rest time,' they said.

Placed in her wheelchair and lifted to bed.

As night fell down quickly she remembered her day.

The lavender, the sunshine, a gentle breeze at play.

The hot burning feeling with her feet touching ground.

Sips of iced water, soothing bird sounds.

She smiled as she lived it a thousand times in her mind.

Each sight, sound and smell a memory entwined.

That day was sadly to be her last,

The future was stolen, her time was now past.

Gone in the morning Cancer stole her away.

But something had happened the previous day.

Before she left us she had a light in her eyes.

She passed with a smile which helped ease our cries.

Contentment in her soul was what she had got.

Throughout her life, the one thing she had sought.

When everything is stripped and taken away.

We see the beauty which we miss everyday.

So very soft, touching and beautiful poem, Anna! It's a beautiful tribute to a precious life! It shows also that we have to take the time to enjoy the little things in life like the rays of the sun, the chirping of the birds, a nice blue sky or even a funny shaped cloud.

Hello and good evening Anna from lake erie time ontario canada 7:54pm during the last hour of daylight in which I call the mellow time or the magic hour.

Well there is beauty in every line you write here on this page and it all comes from your pure poetic heart.

I will madly and gladly post and link your lovely words to my FB page for all to see and read and yes my mum and dad were both born in Stirling and had a wartime romance there when my dad came back to Stirling during a leave from the Canadian army during world war II and met my mum. She came over to Canada as a war bride on the Queen Mary ship after the war.

Thank you for your kind comment and share. I was in Stirling last month; it is a really historic town with the Wallace Monument and Stirlling Castle standing watching over the streets.

That's a really romantic story about your mum and dad. I could picture them in black and white on the boat; sailing off to a new world and a new life.

Hugs to you all too. Anna :)

      Hi Laurie

Thank you very much for reading and commenting.

It is a real memory about some really precious time with my best friend. She died of cancer in her thirties and is missed so much by so many people. When she was ill, we all had a girls weekend away at a house. One day when we were there she spent a whole afternoon just sitting in the sunshine. She said later that it had been a brilliant day.

I didn't understand how much it meant to her at the time or how important every second is. When we lost her everything changed perspective and now I do understand.

She was a beautiful soul in every way, and I am just so glad that we had the years with her that we did .

      Thank you so much

Dear Anna. This is a marvelous and moving piece of work dear woman. I have tears. It really moved me. I am so grateful this woman is now at rest with the Lord. No more suffering. This reminds me how precious and fragile life is. We do not want to waste a moment grumbling because we do not know what tomorrow may bring. This is such and inspiration to be thankful for the very breath of life. I really love this poem as sad as it is. I pray many come to read and are touched by the words you so eloquently wrote. May God bless all of your comings and goings dear Anna.

He was at total peace waiting on the Lord to take him home from that point on. I now have goose bumps. What a wonderful poem that I'll always treasure in my heart. Thanks

I was referred here by Jackie and the Hug a Friend series she is doing. Your photo is absolutely gorgeous, also. Dear Anna,

This is so profoundly beautiful! It made me cry thinking of the last days of my sweet mother, so knew to take in the sweetness and beauty of each day long before she grew ill and then continue to, especially the birds and the sounds of nature around her and sights. She would point out things the rest of us missed.

Thank you for this beauty. You are truly gifted.
