My Hole Life

I live in a hole

In a hole I have dug

With the sweat of my brow

And the tears of my years

Digging my hole

With the blood of my fears

And in my hole

I have built my life

Around people and things

That shore up the sides

Of my hole -

That give it strength

When I am weak

And confine me

When I am strong.

I live in a hole

Where I have lived for years.

Not a rut but a hole

Sometimes I dig deeper into my hole

Sometimes I spread my wings

And then my hole

Becomes wider -

But the sides cave in

To trap me once more

In my hole

My hole life

… whole life

Holey

Part Holy

Not whole
