A precious flower in full bloom – a flower poem
My love of nature, and flowers in particular, has inspired me to write this flower poem. Of course, being a poem, it has a few layers to it. It’s not necessarily about a precious flower in the botannical sense, although it could well be. It can also be an homage to a close friend.
I wrote this flower poem for just such a close friend..a soul mate you might say. I gave it to her as a Christmas present. I’m happy to report that this flower poem had a positive effect, much like my previous poem “My ladybird comes each morning”.
In this technological present-day world, it’s sometimes difficult to take the time to get outdoors, and appreciate mother nature’s finest creations, or to maintain the kind of human contact we need. Surprisingly enough, it is the very same technology that allows us to make contact with our fellow humans throughout the world, many of which we wouldn’t have stumbled upon in a million years.
Long-distance relationships may seem a bit unworkable, but can sometimes seem almost as real as being with that person. It starts out like any other chance meeting..you feel out each others interests, likes, dislikes, dispositions etc. After you become comfortable with each other, you start to loosen up. Of course, it’s always best that you just be yourself. Your choice of words gives you away, whether in person or online. Honesty is always the best policy, even though you could assume any sort of persona online.
Here’s to you, buddy (who shall remain anonymous).
A precious flower in full bloom
From a tenuous seed
A world of colour and fragrance
Warmth and beauty comes
She’s blown in on the wind
Like rills of sand
Forming around all obstructions
Just as nature had intended
Love knows this precious flower
Kissed with the nectar
Of a hundred drops
Of morning dew
As it pools upon her colourful facets
Refracting the surface colour
It is but a temporary distortion
Many a storm, large and small
Pulls and pushes at her swaying frame
Yet she’s not easily torn asunder
Mother Nature has blessed her
With yet another day
Kissed with rays of sunshine
Exuding an undeniable warmth
Mother Nature’s subtle nuances
Have created a uniquely special flower
Although outwardly familiar
To the casual observer
A careful observation
Below the surface reveals
A flower like no other
My garden holds a myriad of shapes
A symphony of colour at every turn
Though none compare to my precious flower
She shines brightly in every season
Taking all human disruption in stride
A perennial favourite year upon year
Until Mother Nature finally calls her home
