A tree speaks (homage to a giant of beauty)

Updated on March 9, 2013

Oh great tree

as I rest my weary body

against your bark so rugged

and your wavering branches

creek in the gentle wind

the sunlight dances

on your leaves so green

I think of times past

of what you have seen

two hundred years

of living on this land

lovers embracing under your watch

horse riders racing

after their prey

birds making homes

where eggs they did lay

the seasons rushed by

at the blink of an eye

your future now uncertain

as clouds in the sky

Hard concrete,and roads

are the modern way

will cover this landscape

and here you will lay

as the grand giant

falls to the ground

the silence now gone

in one foul swoop

cars will soon race

over your grave

and the beauty

once here
