After Thought, Release

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Why do I cling so vehemently to thought,

when my soul pleads just 'being',

yet I chose not the life of a monk,

a life lost in a higher consciousness,

still and repellent of the world of illusion.

I chose the world with all its lies,

and knowing just makes it harder,

to adjust to the illusions and still breath the same air,

still feel the pain and witness the unravelling,

the decimation and suffering of the mindless ignorant.

How can I hold tightly my ideals,

when no matter what they are they fail,

at end proven wanting,

laced with the ineptitude of human reason,

and undermined by our limits of intellect.

I wish I could experience the majesty of a tree,

rooted firmly in life, in perfect harmony,

one with all living, without intention,

simply being and abiding the natural laws,

and sharing sustenance.

How I wish to experience the release of that simplicity,

to be at rest amidst the purity of nature,

rather than contend with it,

suck the life out of it,

and deplete it to the point of collapse.

My thoughts may find wings,

yet they are just the beginning of a far greater journey.

Why be complicated when you can flow with life, think gentle thoughts and accept the natural world.
