All...But a Moment in Time

The momentous results, in acts of a few,

be they great in stature or each so small,

The occurrence to be felt, in magnitude, a belt,

that often affects the lives of us all.

But a moment in time, in seconds, their deed,

or, within the blink of an eye, by such greed,

Never to retract, and never in taking it back,

as in conspiracy, or the acts of a spy, may lead.

A blast that strips, or the sinking of ships,

these may lead to the most terrible of a war,

The motives of some, all do seem so dumb,

as perhaps, in paying back a distant score.

The lives it may touch, the horrors of such,

beyond perception and all our thought,

No vicissitude, in scope, to escape hangman's rope,

by any tragedy, that any act, so terribly wrought.

A rockets proud launch, by the brave, so staunch,

to take a lead in the searching of space,

As a challenge is so set, its conquering, to be met,

and is that miracle, which we each so embrace.

Curing diseases and all pain, with so much to gain,

in research, and in the diligence, that is done,

A microscope, then to reveal, a bacteria to kill,

in its strain, a confrontation, that's now won.

The taking of a life, in a war of such strife,

to happen and in just a heartbeat of time,

In the desert sands, or in faraway lands,

such things happen, without reason, or rhyme.

A fire is set, a fire, put out, a life is saved,

in a shout, in a blinking, or a fleeting of light,

An action thought out, before assuming a route,

and has saved many, in doing what's right.

Times may come, times may go, and the future,

not ours to know, and determined, not by fate, alone,

Although, it seems insane, often facts are all so plain,

if we just follow, as our intellects, should have grown.

Above all, God looks down, as on this orb, we spin around,

and is a guiding force put here, for all to be,

Our lives cast upon this earth, despite meaning, our worth,

As in a twinkling, our creation, then for all to see.

Thanks teaches, in an instant the world may be changed and in that same time span, a new baby bird is hatched from it egg shell and greets the blue of the sky and fresh breezes that blow about its nest. Yes, a moment in time can mean so many things.

Wonderful expression of how our time here is so fleeting. In just moments, things can change profoundly. Great poem and so full of truth.

Such profound awareness, rumination, and wisdom in your powerful poem. The fleeting nature of life surrounds and abounds. If we could just KNOW that every waking second, how transformed__and beautiful__our lives would become. Thank you for a magnificent poem!

Thank you for sharing this poem. I love how you contrast the good and the bad, the complicated issues with the small issues, etc. I feel that you were able to reproduce "a day in the life" so to speak, very well. Jamie
