Almost a Love Story

Updated on May 4, 2015

He loved her
She loved him
They're perfect for each other
They're inseparable

They must be destined
To be together
Forever and ever
A love made in heaven

Through thick and thin
They never gave up
Never lose hope
Holding on to their dreams

Love they say is endless
So he proposed
She said yes
And the wedding date is set

He stood at the altar
Waiting for his bride
So they could live happily
Ever after

But she collapsed on the aisle
And died on the way to the hospital
The happy moment
Turns into a tragedy

He lived alone
Always turning back to the time
When his bride is walking down the aisle
Wondering the life that could have been

How sad and what brilliant poetry. Life is filled with joy and sadness. We must look for joy behind every corner and understand sadness. Seek and ye shall find an opening that leads to happiness. For every death, there is a birth. Thanks for sharing this poem. Blessings, Audrey

"Almost" carries such a sadness all its own...a tragedy when it involves love, which you have captured so well.

There are widows also, widows who had that brief glimpse of a future cut short by the death of their man in the military, widows who never found another like him they might be satisfied with.

Happy lives filled with joy are always too short, even if mortality is a long and happy one.

      Up and beautiful.

Oh, how awful! They didn't even get to say "'til death do us part".
