Always be your friend...A poem

Updated on February 27, 2011

I am finding it hard to let you go

After all this time you have been mine

You are finally happy I know

But for you I look for any sign

Distracted by your new full life

You don’t have any room for me

A mother again and now a wife

Things for you are finally as they should be

Yet still my heart aches in your absence

As the distance between us grows

As each day passes with silence

As yet another chapter is to close

I Long to know how you are today

If you are happy, frustrated or struggling

Just to hear your voice no matter what you had to say

Being part of your world is what I am sorely missing

With a new house, a baby and another on the way

It certainly looks like you have found you’re happily ever after

Yet as joy for you fills me, I can’t help but miss yesterday

When our lives where intertwined a lost closer

Together we climbed mountains and ran free

Protecting each other against the world

We dreamed dreams and planned who we would be

Not knowing how far from innocent fantasy we would be hurled

Life has hurt us but never broken

Binding us only closer as we moved on

Helping the other, overcome their own demons

Our friendship making us strong

But now things have changed for you

As they should when dreams are realized

You have discovered a love that is deep and true

And that is something precious to be prized

I want the sun to shine on your face

I want your days filled with laughter

As your new family finds its place

For you I truly couldn’t be gladder

I just miss the sister of my heart

And I hope this is not the end

Just a another chapter waiting to start

For I will always be your friend

I would really like to believe that rekindling our friendship will be like that, but its hard to see it at the moment with absolutely no word from her at all...

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and your offer of friendship, it is a gift to treasure

I'd be your friend! Sometimes we just needed time, I have taken breaks from friends...funny when you hook up again it is almost like no time has passed. I hope you are reunited with your friend. If not it sounds to me like it might be her loss.

A true friend will always be there. Pick up a phone from time to time, even if she doesnt call you.

thank you so much for taking the time to read this poem, my friendships have always been the most important thing in my life, and losing such close friends along the way can hurt terribly, but the tighter you hold onto them, the more it hurts you both in the long run. I Am looking forward to reading your hub on subject, again thanks

I am glad I found you - was a pleasure reading this beautiful poem. I've been thinking about my friends of late, and about how they've drifted away post their marriages. You want to hold on, but have to move on, too. Incidentally, my latest hub is on a similar theme, but nowhere near as awesome as your beautiful creation. Thanks for the wonderful read :)

...well the mark of any greater writer in my estimation is the ability to go from the sublime to the ridiculous - or the tender and beautiful (like this lovely poem) to the horrific and the dark (like the zombies or vampires) and that, my friend, is a fine balance that you achieve so well!!!

I miss the feeling of an ongoing companion, someone I can just ring and say "Hey how's things?" I can feel your loss in your words. Look to the future maybe it will be her and her family knocking someday wanting to say those exact words.

I can but hope that its a similar story with my friend and I, thanks so much for your support and kind encouraging words :)

      Always exploring,

maybe I took our friendship for granted, i don't know, but I do know that it breaks my heart losing contact with her, I am glad that you found something here that you could relate too, thank you

      Doug Turner

It is a lot different from my usual (which I hope to get back

too soon)but I guess I needed to find a way to say goodbye to her for now, to find a way that I could let her go without anger or disappointment. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, your opinion always means a lot

Very heartfelt contrast to your usual tales from the underworld, which I also always enjoy. This has a lot of soul in the words. Glad you were brave enough to share these feelings.

"..letting this friend go has been very hard for me as she was the first and closest I ever had.."

I lost my best friend since our teen years much the same way and for several years. We found each other again 22 years ago and have been best buds ever since. I doubt that you have lost her for long, especially when the new wears off the relationship.

      ;-)

Friends don't ever really leave, they go on vacation. Like our children, they always know where home is, they just don't live there any more. Makes the visits so much sweeter. Nice job. Be well. Voted up and b.

Good expression of moving on and starting a new beginning. We can't stay in the rut forever, we need to learn new things and people. It's hard to not have the same old friends, good luck.
