Amazing Disgrace

Updated on August 11, 2017

Her crying for attention

Is like music to the deaf

Pausing ever so slightly

Who would hear her best?

Her problems are so minor

No focus to better her life

She wears her crown of vanity

Expecting all the attention for the night

Sorry I was late to your pity party

But I purposely made sure that I was tardy

I don’t believe in living life that way

More shallow than a rain puddle

Yet she would try to say she’s drowning

No chance for a positive influence

She would rather continue frowning

Black and white make gray

But to her that’s the color of her sun

She’d rather focus on the negative details

Then to find the positive and run

Sorry I was late to your pity party

But I purposely made sure that I was tardy

I don’t believe in living life that way

She wants all the money

She wants all the fame

She wants it all to herself

She wants you to know her name

She wants you to think her problems are bigger and more important than yours

If life was a game for the pity, she would be holding the highest score

Amazing disgrace

How lost and profound

The path you have chosen

Is the path buried into the ground

Amazing disgrace

So blind to see

Your grip you thought was strong

Has loosened quickly around me

      I love these lines:

"More shallow than a rain puddle

Yet she would try to say she’s drowning"

Brilliant! I think this is your best poem yet. It is very good. Well done!

LOL --- Pity Party Planners - not petty party - I stand corrected. :-)

Well done. Petty Party planners are everywhere... lost souls who have not woke up yet. We've all met them - key is to not be one.... and if you are one - wake up!

      Thanks

This is all so very true Laura. Thanks for the words of reality and thanks for liking my poem. I blame t.v. as well.

Awesome poem! Really good work there and right to the heart of sad condition some people live with. I can only hope they grow out of it! It's so much better to be happy and joyful! I agree that much of this is due to T.V. I also blame the narcissistic and sarcastic characters people idolize on T.V. My biggest angst are the people who are sarcastic because they believe it's the way "smart" people talk. I wish Hollywood would be entertaining and not influencing our morals and attitudes.

Thanks so much Dzy. Society really has painted a vain picture of whats important. thanks for the votes.

Katrine, well said. I agree with you all the way. It is the trials in life that teach us exactly what is important. thanks for stopping by.

We are what life has made us. The more we see, experience and go through the wiser and stronger we become in a process. We gain a 'protective shield' around us, able to endure life's kicks easier. And more likely we are to recngnize big, important things in life, having less eye for what's small, petty and unimportant. Unfortunatelly many people flow through their life unable to understand that life doesn't only move around them.

That pretty much describes modern society. All of the shows on TV along the lines of "Hollywood Access," and so forth--not news, but gossip. Who cares? None of it is important. It is shallower than a rain puddle, indeed!

Well said. Voted up and shared.

Do people seriously have time for pity parties anymore? They are truly a waste of time that could be spent doing something that's unselfish and contribute to society. I liked your poem...I tend to brush past those people. UP! AWESOME!

Fullerman5000....Bravo Bravo!!! This is so excellent and an issue close to my heart. How I dread the whining, moaning and groaning of the perpetual Hostess of the Pity Party....and have a known a few? Far too many. I've had to try my best to dance around them just because they carry toxins that can ruin a perfectly wonderful day! Don't you think that after awhile, it would occur to them that HAPPY people are happy because they MAKE IT THAT WAY!!! Thank you for this great poem!

I think we can all relate on some level that we have had an expierence with a person of the similar nature. Thanks for the positive vibes Curiad.

Wow, do I know someone that you wrote this about. It is always someone else's fault, and in many cases these are the people collecting welfare or some form of assistance and then refuse to work. The think the world owes them a living. Thank you for the great Hub.

I agree with you. A lot of people simply pity themselves to much that they forget to move to make themselves better and blame other people success when they fail. It dont make sense but I am a witness to this type of people.

Thanks Victoria and good to see you. I blame lame reality television for a lot of these problems. I know some people like this and they don't even have a clue on what real problems are. Thanks for the hub love.

I like this! And I know people like this, unfortunately. Drama queens and kings who think their problems are so huge, and they certainly can't be there for their friends. Well done. Voted up and several other things. sharing!
