American Poet

Updated on March 6, 2013

a pariah

a blasphemer

expressing baser passions,

dying patiently

on the edge

of uncertainty,

ignoring the knocking

on the other

side of his words,

searching for one unburned

picture in the ashes

Someimtes more is said with just a few words to express. Thank you this is very touching and thought provoking.

I was trying to capture the renegade aspect of American poetry--we like breaking and remaking the so-called "rules," and I hope the world of poetry is richer as a result.

I really enjoyed this poem. American poetry is a force all its own, thank you. Jamie

I've always believed that poetry is whatever the poet says it is. There are, however, many who believe poetry should be an exacting science. I am glad I live in a country where experimentation with form and content is celebrated.
