An Autopsy

Updated on February 6, 2015

First,

the cutting, the sutures and the stitch,

an autopsy brought a lot of drama,

but it goes without a hitch,

or without an issue,

the cutters gathering tissue,

and the organ samples for the toxicology,

a cut here, a stitch there, no apology,

then checking the remains

for any other overt signs of trauma,

there could be no sparks without flames

it was indeed a drama,

at least,

not for the deceased,

a perfectly straightforward piece

of medical work,

everyone did their best,

or it seemed that way,

as the attendant was sewing up the chest,

the outside sky gray,

and the attendant’s eyes would mist,

as he noticed the hospital identification

bracelet on the cadaver’s wrist,

the name shaded,

and the ink was faded,

as the sadness would grow,

because it was the third time that week

they worked on a John Doe.

Impressive and somewhat sinister, but real. Well done!

There is no one else who would attempt a poem on autopsy and even if there was they couldn't compare to you. I think all eyes misted at the end of this poem dear friend.

      Voted up, awesome, and beautiful.

Not to compare my work to yours, you are a very unique writer, but your poems remind me of my own. You are not afraid to touch on the darker side of life. After all, roses are red...but so is blood!

What a master of storytelling in rhyme you are! I'm sure you've been told so many times for so much of your work. I always enjoy your work. I hope you always keep the words flowing.

Wow...your work is amazing, Frank, and this poem: Autopsy, is no exception. You always seem to find the exact word to say a mouthful...and keep the rhyme! Brilliant. Thanks for sharing your creative talent.
