An Improvised Mother

I am afraid, unsure

a baby grows in me

so beautiful and pure.

What kind of mom will I be?

I don't know any songs.

no lullabies, no rhymes

never knew of hugs

no "I love You's" at times.

I am afraid, unsure

a baby grows in me

so beautiful and pure.

What kind of mom am I?

What if I am broken?

What if there is evil in me?

What if I do to you,

what she did to me?

Don't worry my love

I am learning to give

those things I never had

to break the chain with me.

I love you already,

my breath, my life.

My child, my baby

I'm here until I die.

I missed you annart! Is true, everyone is different, yet should be the same unconditional love.

So beautiful. So sad that some mothers can't cope or have it in them to abuse their children. This one is different. The mother's instinct is strong, thankfully. Very poignant to a mother and grandmother.

Good to read something of yours again.

Thanks Anita! Is true the chain must be broken. That is what I did and hope I was last in the line. Blessings and light.

What a beautiful poem. Yes there are mothers that are abusive - difficult to fathom, but history need not repeat itself.

Wow! Sometimes I write things that I think no one can relate to. Is all true, I was terrified. What if, what if I was not strong enough. After 2 generations of absent, abusive parents, What if I was damaged too? It wasn't until my kids were teens that my daughter told me,- " Mom, you are in the clear. You are not your mother! Now is the time to give yourself some credit.Geez... By all accounts, you gave so much love and protection to us that I cant understand where you learned it. I cant wait to see you as a grandma. No one will able to stand you!. Rest, relax we are ok." Thank you Audrdrey.
