The Uneducated Woman Was A Great Mother

Updated on January 31, 2015

I came to a village one day

It was in remote area

The inhabitants were so poor

But the view was so beautiful

I enjoyed the green land covered by grass

I enjoyed the beautiful song of birds

I enjoyed the fresh air

I enjoyed the hospitality of the people

Poor but rich

How wonderful it was

Poor but rich

It was not only the nature that rich of beauty

I met a great old lady there

She was a poor one

Without any wealth and without any knowledge

But she was so rich

She was talking with her neighbor

“I saw a big fish in the market,” she said

“It looked so delicious and I really wanted it,”

“But I remembered my daughter,”

“She was staying in a dormitory,”

“She doesn’t eat much and sleeps on the floor,”

“I prefer saving my money and give it to her”

“She was studying for her future”

“I am sure later she will be an angel”

Birds were singing on the branches

They heard what she said

I was so surprised

No education, no wisdom, no love, I thought

But I saw the fact, and I was wrong

Yes, Gran. Most women's body are weak, but their soul are strong enough.

I love the sheer simplicity of this poem, how it unfolds softly and gently to find the jewel in the center of it all. Heroism is found in unusual places, as your poem shows.
