Anonymous Is My Name

Updated on January 6, 2017
shanmarie profile image

Shannon is a passionate individual whose feelings and thoughts sometimes spill onto the pages in the form of poetry.

Anonymous is my name

Because you can't buy love even if you try

Though you can give it away

Freely and without reserve

No worries about what you or what I

May or may not deserve

No cares about whether or not it's returned

Unconditional love may stake its claim

But anonymous is now my name

Three Days Grace- Anonymous

Hi Shanmarie, Is "anonymous" love? I enjoyed this poem and even though it is short it made me think. Well done.

Anonymous is love if you want it to be. I guess it's all in how you interpret it. ;) Glad it made you ponder some. Thanks for stopping by, Jodah. I guess you are hours ahead of me there Down Under. So have a good day or evening, whatever it is. I'm going to try to get a few hours of sleep before I have to get back up.

I was with John, wondering, at first, who "Anonymous" is...then I decided on Love because, well, I wanted it to be. LOL And it's all about me, you know. :) Loved it even though I'm a bit slow on this cold witch of a morning.

Funny how a song can conger up a poem of words that each reader can decipher into something meaningful. Interesting!

LOL. Bill, you often say I'm funny, but you amuse me this time. It is cold today here as well. But today it should get above the freezing mark. We dripped the faucets and they still froze again! Next week will reach the 60s and 70s again, though. It will be a heat wave!

Actually. Ruby, this time, the words came first. I wrote the poem based off something personal that inspired it. And then I went looking for a song on YouTube. Besides the obvious title, I figured the song might fit some interpretations. Glad you think it's interesting.

I've only been seriously into "poetry" since joining HP, so I'm still a babe in training. Sometimes I can go deep and conjure up a vision......maybe not. I like Jodah's & Bill's concept that Anonymous is Love. Then again, maybe it's "stubbornness." Don't ask me why. The 2nd time I read it, that's what I thought of.......Nice work!!

Paula, I guess I'm not exactly what most people call "into poetry" either. I like reading it and I love it from a lyrical perspective, especially when it's combined with a good melody or musical composition that conjures up emotion. But when it comes to writing my own, I am more freestyle. I do what feels right and sounds right to me. I know there are several different types of poetry, each with their own set of rules to follow. Those don't come as naturally to me.

Stubbornness? You're right. I shouldn't ask you why. Because you probably just know me a little too well! LMAO!!! (But I can tell you, that wasn't exactly on my mind when I was writing, but it probably fits just as well.)

So true, you can't buy love, but you can give it away and even sell it if you are a prostitute of a kind.

Better to be anonymous when you give, and spare the receiver feelings of guilt - to mention but only one unpleasant feeling that could be activated by a gift.

Ah, Martie, that's more along the the lines of what I was actually thinking when I wrote that. The second pat of what you said, that is. My mind was nowhere near prostitution. LOL! Although, I understand your point.

I guess my mind slid in the gutter with Martie. I was thinking prostitution too.

Well, Flourish, that's an interpretation I hadn't intended. But I certainly see it now in more than one sense. What do you call it when the poet surprises herself? LOL

      Hi Dear Shan,

I see you have people thinking on this one, and me included! With the line about buying love, one can assume prostitution. However, with the anonymous and this world of online love and hidden identities, one may think of a stalker of sorts.

However, I know your writing stems from personal life situations, and so I believe we are all way off base on this one.

      Happy New Year, sweet girl

Can't stop love. If it's true to your heart, you feel an indescribable love, even if not reciprocated. Great poem. Thanks for new thoughts.

Hi Faith! I left you a reply, but I guess the comment bandit strike again. Proof! It's just gone somewhere. I don't even remember what all I said. I know I said that Martin's idea of sparing someone guilt and other unpleasant emotions. I don't remember what else I said. I think it's interesting that people interpret it similarly to the way you did. Kind of like songs, I suppose. Lyrics can mean different things to different people.

I think anonymous is the person who died for love, not love itself. Brilliant poem. Enjoyed it. Would vote up if I could.
