Another Kiss for a Friend: a Poem

Updated on July 30, 2017

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Just another kiss of those that never lied

this time to say thanks for the gift of you

for never, ever allowing ego and pride

to spoil on yourself what is noble and true.

Now sounding much like a greeting card

I can't help it as I'm looking for a way

not really knowing how to start

to make look original what I say.

For, words have been abused and kisses made sour

on a friend's cheek they looked too close to lips

and every honest gesture or a birthday flower

often raised eyebrows of suspicious creeps.

A dude with a female friend always a treat for rumor

while innocent and simple to a trusting wife

and it always tickles my sense of humor

spicing our friendship with some extra life.

So bring your cheek closer for one more kiss

and let it say words never said before

for no one ever had a friend like this

to come up with words that would say more.

Oh, I love the idea of an official 'Friends' Day'. What a great idea!

Bronwen---You are right, true friends are a godsend in life. This particular poem I devoted to my pen-pal in Buenos Aires since I was 16---which means 56 ago. We have never met, but we are a proof that friendships can be meaningful at this distance and sometimes much better than those over a cup of coffee.

She is a psychoanalyst, and I have a life long passion in all aspects of human nature---so we have plenty in common, beside both being artistic.

These days it's so called "Friends' Day" being celebrated in Argentina---coinciding with the date of first man stepping on the Moon. So I got the inspiration for the poem.

An interesting poem; friendships are so important in our lives and are to be valued and enjoyed as we contribute to them.
