Antagonist

Updated on July 16, 2011

You smile at evil in the world

Secretly you stir it up

You’ve made a mask

With people’s lives

Their blood, you savor

In your cup

You stand atop your blackened tower

Scowling at those below

Your hateful life

Has lead you here

Alienating

Those you know

Deeds of yours make murder mild

Every part of you is fake

With the chance

I’d strike you down

And this,

A better world I’d make

If only I had had the chance

These things would never be

I’d stop you dead

And out you there

I’d prevent

Your mass debris

You, the lowest form of life

Deserve to rot in worse than hell

Your mirror shows

A stately queen

Darkness fills

Your inner shell

If I could get my hands on you

Your meter would run out

I’d have no problem

Abrogating

What this world

Would smile without

Powerful poetry, interesting to read and ponder on too. The best place for an atagonist (apart from in your poem) is in fiction or a film where they serve a purpose, the real world is better without such characters.

Nat - thank you so much.

Silent - thank you. The only poetry I write comes from moments of passion (frankly when I try to write poetry when I'm not feeling anything...it's not so great lol). I agree. I love it when I read a poem that causes an emotional reaction in me. Love it.

the reason I enjoy reading and writing dark poetry is because I like the agitation and provocation that they are capable of inflicting on the reader. You either like it or you hate it. But that does not matter as long as one is honest about one's feelings and poetry is all about feelings.Kudos and thank you for sharing.

Excellent, excellent work. I could swear this was how I felt once upon a time. If your going through something right now, believe me, I can so relate. Whatever it is, My heart goes out to you.

Thanks Saddle :) They are indeed one mean cat. I had to get it out. Then I figured since I've published so many other personal things on HubPages, why the heck not publish this? Lol.

Thanks for your compliment and hugs :)

Wonderfully created, for someone to be banished to even worst than Hell, that dude/dudette has got to be one mean cat. I enjoyed how you twisted your verse and showed real disdain for this character. Brilliant, loved it. Hugs

Thank you epigramman, coming from you quite a compliment, my fellow Canadian :) On that note, sounds like some view you've got there. I can't complain though, beyond my back deck lies a field, horses, and the river.

...well it's a honor indeed and a privilege to read something as powerful as this ....and it makes me feel proud that we are fellow Canadians as I look out my window right now and see Lake Erie just right across from my lakeshore road in Ontario.

I am inspired by your words - they are compelling and full of cinematic fury .......
