Apparition of Love

Updated on April 13, 2015

There in the garden

was the place he liked best

here was where her

flowers blossomed and grew

so long now that she’d gone

but here beneath the moon and the stars

they met each night

and shared their love

he now waited for the midnight hour

when he knew she’d come

and as his heart beat faster

he felt her hand slipping into his

he looked at that lovely ghostly face

her smile so brilliant

as she softly sighed

he could have cried

then she rose from the bench

and he watched as she floated along

touching each precious bloom

that in life she had loved so very much

she was so lovely

now frozen in time

returning to him

the only love she had ever known

no matter what the season

she found a reason

to bring him great joy

whenever she appeared to him

in the wintertime

when the garden was covered in snow

she would create snow flowers

that shimmered with a silvery glow

and as he rose to go to her

she turned toward him

and for just a moment

he saw her as she had looked the day she went away

then the careworn face

was replaced by ethereal beauty

a special glow was all about her

this spirit that waited for him up yonder

she waved her hands

and suddenly their love song began to play

he reached out to her

and they danced among the flowers

if one would look over the garden fence

they would see

an elderly gentleman

waltzing with the air unless they truly believed

but he didn’t care

not when she was there

so lovely and so very young

like on the day that they met

and so through the years

while waiting for the angels to come

he enjoyed these ghostly visits

just him and his only love

Gypsy, thank you so much for writing this lovely ethereal poem. I have written similar poems and stories on the love that is so strong it overcomes all things, even death. My heart is filled with love and peace for this old man who still experiences the youth and beauty of his beloved. So beautiful.

Rasma, this is so picturesque. The beauty of the old man's midnight rendezvous comes through in your words.

Line correction, so look for others: "he know waited for the midnight hour"

Beautifully expressed, great poem. The old man being visited by his loved one at midnight must have given him some solace.

      Thank you Manatita.

      Thank you Ms.Dora

I have always felt that these things are possible and especially between two people who love each other a lot Vellur.

I'll sure try Demas. Thank you for keeping an eye out for mistakes. I always try so hard to be sure that I don't let any in and it came as a real shocker to me when someone commented on something I wrote at least two years ago and it has sat there all this time with a mistake. I hate that but what can you do.
