Apples, Trees, Vines, and Roots

Updated on April 15, 2011

They say the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree

I cannot differ this saying they say, I simply agree

I look at my children and wonder who they will be

If they will listen and learn and see what I see

Miniature people who stand and define

A living creation I made and rightfully mine

A vessel connected a rooted blood line

They wrap their tiny arms around like a vine

I may have some ins and outs, ups and downs

But I cherish each and every smile and frown

I planted my seeds in soil colored brown

Three little seeds that have grown in the ground

A growing life effect has now taken place

I ask please don’t rush this isn’t a race

Take your time to grow at your own pace

Sprouting to fast now a changing face

I know one day they will be fully grown

Nothing is set but writing in stone

I hope when they fall they run to his thrown

Or if not they run to my side or pick up their phone

I see similarities in all that they say and even do

The outcome of what mommy and daddy construe

At times I think they are animals that belong in a zoo

All I ask that they carry their own field of view

bella, I so related to this. All you can do is give them your best and pray. My greatest fear was that my sons would turn out like their father, for, after all, they have 50% of his genetic make up...but I must tell you, from him, they learned who not to be. Modeling good principles and unconditional love, kindness, forgiveness, understanding, faith, and the Golden Rule goes a long way in shaping character in our children. The rest is in God's Hands! For they were His before they were ours! Lots of Love!
