As Time Imparts

By Tony DeLorger © 2104

As time imparts, and thoughts of hearts,

alert the passage of demise at start,

and whisper in our deafened ears,

the coldest words, our deepest fears,

of life so vibrant once in endless seas,

now standing in a puddle, bereft, diseased,

as age with gnarled and bony claws,

take hold a mind of fervent cause,

receding back from complex views,

to settle warm in day, refuse,

to tax a mind instead of pleasures felt,

the contentions passed, and long gone dealt,

now distant from a focus made,

to ease thoughts down in slow decay,

and endure not the wrath of vibrant souls,

who in youth would contest a man so old,

so all you antagonists on ego's ride,

I beg you all just step aside,

for now in shallow waters still,

so free from all your crap and ill,

I choose to relish my older age,

without your dramas and aspirations laid,

it is my time to lay back and peruse,

a life well lived, fine women and booze,

and as time drags me to my distant grave,

I'll go down fighting, I might even shave,

but until then, I'll use all my available faculties,

to enjoy my dotage with no casualties,

and if you press me, to go against my troth,

I'll simply tell you, to well and truly, FUCK OFF!

When you get older you deserve a little space; you can only take so much shit for so long!

Nice to meet you, Laurel. So glad you enjoyed the piece. My best friend is 85 years young and together we curse getting older, but in a satirical way. We all have to live with the fact, but we;ll go down fighting. Thanks for dropping by, your comment much appreciated.

Fabulous, absolutely fabulous! From one whose hips are now metallic and ceramic, this pissed off ode to aging gracefully is welcome-thx, Tony!

      PS: Nice to meet you...;)
