"Asphyxiation" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on May 2, 2014

A white picket fence is lodged in my throat

Wooden stakes; driven into my head and my heart

Splintering into my flesh

Festering sores that keep my mind from rest

A metal pail is nailed to my chest

A spit bucket filled with piss, shit and blood

Hanging from white bone and wooden white beam

Fluids lost from 12 rounds with the American dream

The one that used to keep me up all night

Slapping me around and cutting off my oxygen

Wrapped tight; so to unravel

The rope or the hands of the ghosts that choke

That stifle, that scare you stiff

A four edged square

Standing there

With your thumb up your ass

Wondering what to do as the air slips away

The truth! You speak the truth! I was thinking yesterday about what success was in this country. It seemed more like insanity to me. Jamie
