Aspiring Writer

I left my hometown in the spring of 2013 with direction to the port of Acapulco, Mexico, confident that the modest salary as a writer, which I was getting writing for three sites on the internet, was sufficient enough to cover my modest expenses, while my fondness for writing would enhance my writing portfolio, which at the time did not exceed 500 articles spread into three distinct writing sites.

¨With the money I´m making and the with what I have learned about how to economize my nutrients, I´ll be able to live modestly,¨ I reasoned.

¨I won´t stop writing and my profits will increase until reaching economic security. ¨ I continued pondering, knowing from the experience of others that a job as a writer on the internet is profitable, given, you always write original and sense catching stories.

I packed the only suitcase that I was going to take in this endeavor. My aspirations as a writer were taking a slow, yet, upward direction. Confident about this fact, I left my place in the city, after getting rid of unneeded stuff. With this short term idea, I left toward the ocean.

The Writer in Me

Since I was little, I got interested about the ocean. I don´t remember when, but every time I had the chance. I would always headed to the ocean. I was in my teens when I landed in a port in the coast of Sinaloa, Mexico.

¨How old are you? ¨ the man asked.

¨I´m 13 years old, I answered.

¨And you want to work in the open sea? ¨he inquired doubtful.

¨Yes, I answered.

¨You can´t, it´s too dangerous and sea life is tough.

I was not given a job at the port due to my age, but I continued searching for my true conviction, since. Most of the articles I wrote after starting writing on the internet were developed around that theme.

¨Living close to the sea, I will be able to write on the sea subject, ¨ I pondered.

I landed in Acapulco after a six hour trip on a bus. Immediately, I rented a hotel room with view to the ocean.

Getting Inspiration

¨I will get inspiration for writing here, I thought.

I did not only write articles about the ocean, but on other subjects, as well, (cruisers, nightlife, beach life, etc.).

Needing to save a little money, I rented a modest room at hostel, where I just stayed for three days, due to a suffocating, non-ventilated room, with a malfunctioning air condition system.

I found a furnished apartment, with internet connection, not far from the beach, where I installed myself, after paying one month´s rent. It was not too bad and was free of vandalism.

I started writing from there and notice that my wage as a writer was increasing minimally, but steadily. That gave me self-assurance.

¨It´s a good idea to look for more writing sites, ´ I reflected.

I register myself on two different writing sites, but on neither one, I noticed substantial incentive. The task of writing, non-demanding, for me, gave me plenty of time to do side activities; for example, visit interesting places, such as an estuary, known as ¨Pie de la cuesta,¨ 8 or 10 km north of Acapulco. I was acquainted with estuaries due that I had done research and written various articles about the topic.

Pie de la Cuesta

I toured ¨Pie de la Cuesta¨ on a 10 km trip, crossing the estuary, after which we arrived to a small island, where me and others had lunch.

I spent the rest of the month touring the small boats in the Acapulco Bay and took a long walk through the bay´s beaches. Before the end of the month, I had strolled through most of the city´s attractions. I had walked through most of this port city, which is not too big, within my personal point of view.

¨Small cities are not good for city people, ¨ one friendly voice, who had been at the port and which I had heard three years back, whispered into my ears.

After spending one month in the port of Acapulco, I packed and headed to Cuernavaca, Morelos. Once there, I rented a small apartment and made use of the city´s Wi-Fi connection at the main square to continue writing. Cuernavaca is twice as big as Acapulco; therefore, there are more things to see.

This is the time, when I was more productive, writing more than five articles per day. And my salary was increasing steadily. I was monitoring that increase day by day. I was pleased for that.

Inspiration from Everywhere

One of the suggestions I have read about writing is that inspiration abounds everywhere. Unimaginable places and non too common topics can turn to be very attractive to read. writing about anything can be so interesting, depending on the way a topic is written. With this fact in mind, I thought, why don´t I go and spend some days in the open country. There is much to see and do in the country.

I had bought a piece of land close to Cuernavaca some years back.

¨Why don´t I go to my place, and install myself on a camping tent for some days, looking for inspiration, ¨ I thought, knowing that this could open my perspective and start writing about nature.

With that idea, I headed to my place in between Cuernavaca and Mexico city. I bought one of those waterproof camping tents at Walmart and installed it on my property. The sun rays burn more intense in the state of Morelos, due to clear and smoke free skies. This was an inconvenient for me. I don´t like sun burns.

One week after arriving at my property. The site which was giving me most of the money to support my life style announced that it was going out of business due to a bad business movement. That was the time when I started to worry about my situation.

Anyway, I continued writing hoping to someday find my place as a writer, and that is what I´m doing in the present. Fortunately, the conviction that I have obtained as a writer has given me the confidence to continue ahead in this road that I have chosen late in life.

Inspiration from Puppies

I arrived to my property one and a half years ago, and I have found lots of inspiration, especially from puppies and Kenia, ¨My dog¨ which adopted me as her owner two weeks after camping in my place. I saw my puppies arrive to this world and from the very first moment I felt stimulated to support them. Unfortunately, without the money to support them, I had to give three of them for adoption.

They were adopted by a little child in Mexico city, who assured me she loved dogs. I did not move too often from my place, thinking that they were going to starve to death. Now, I can go to the big city, knowing that Kenia, th only dog I have, watches my place and feeds from rabbits and other small animals.

I kept ¨Little Cotton Ball, ¨ one of the puppies; unfortunately, it was killed by a passing vehicle, after having accompanied me to the bus stop. This puppy became special to me. I learned to communicate with the animals that approached men more than 15000 years ago, for a reason, I´m sure.

I encourage those who want to become writers to follow their own convictions with the right approach. Inspiration is everywhere, we just need to put hands on the task and start pouring the ideas on a piece of paper or a computer.

Thanks for reading. That´s right, a writer needs to be motivated and any type of lifestyle is good enough to stimulate the writing process.

I really enjoyed reading about your writing journey. You have so much courage to just travel and write. Not many people are that bold. You're sure putting in the hard work. 5 articles a day is tough stuff. I wish you a great journey, and I hope that your writing can soon fund a nice hotel room. Maybe camping and hosteling is half the fun. It sure sounds like an adventure.
