At Least I Came Back (poem)

Updated on August 8, 2015

I thought we’d spend forever side by side

At least I thought these were the words we shared

Now you behave as if our love had died

At least I see our memories you spared

Why is it you keep brushing me away

At least be gentle as my heart takes wing

Has it become annoyance that I stay

At least find reasons that I still can sing

It was not easy for me to return

At least your kindness left an open door

And even in this sad shape I still yearn

At least these eyes still see who I yearn for

I’m sorry that I left and made you cry

At least I managed to return a fly

A little sick

He should have chosen a different form. Flies are a nuisance!

Wonderful as always, Mh, and funny too about the fly ...

Nice poem! Makes me think of love lost and then found.

Like a break-up between a couple. One partner lost sight but is finding his or her way back. I can also feel it in another way. For example, losing passion for something like an art. Getting distracted or losing sight of something very close to oneself; a hobby or objective.

Things happen, complex or not, and always change a path in our destiny, right? A new friend comes in, a new hobby, or a change in view: ideas, opinions, political or religious beliefs, e.g.

Then finding that fire again and reigniting that drive you lost for whatever it is you lost sight of. Love it! Again, great work! You sparked my imagination to say the least.
