London Summer Olympics, 2012

The eyes of the world are focused on London, UK. Proud supporters of teams from around the world are watching as their favorites compete for Olympic gold. Die-hard fans have scraped up ticket money and flocked to England by the thousands, hoping for a ring-side seat when their champion "brings home the gold."

It seems every channel on the TV, every station on the radio, is tuned in to the play-by-play of one or another sporting event. The millions of fans who didn't make it to the Games are glued to screens and headphones, determined to soak in every glorious, thrilling moment of the action.

...and here, at home, on HubPages, all eyes are on the weekly HubNuggets writing contest. The HubNuggets Team has rounded up eighteen stellar hubs, six in each of three categories. These HubNuggets hopefuls have trained hard for this moment - the final test of their writing stamina and ability - this week, they go for (HubNuggets) gold in the winner-take-all HubNuggets Olympic Writing Weekly Competition!

Jason: It's certainly been exciting so far, ripplemaker. Maddie, we've seen a series of incredible upsets in the opening heats - top-seeded contenders were bumped out of the medal running by this amazing bunch of new-comers!

Maddie Ruud: Jason, I believe we're going to see some very skillful writing in this category - these new hubbers are showing their expertise already! We're in for an thrilling ride to the finals.

Jason: Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

Simone Smith: Here we are in our second event of this week-long writing competition! Patty Inglish MS is with me on this glorious day, as we take a look at our finalists in the Technology category.

Patty Inglish MS: It certainly is a glorious day, Simone - and a great day for technology! And speaking of technology, Simone, Enelle Lamb is joining us from track-side, through the wonders of HP Insta-cast! Welcome, Enelle.

Enelle Lamb: It's great to be in the heart of the action, Patty and Simone. The nominees are warming up right now, flexing their fingers in preparation for their final heat.

Gold Medal Finals: Food and Cooking

ladyjane1: Hi! ladyjane1 and RedElf reporting from the Olympic Kitchens. The judges are discussing the delicious entries from the last heat, and we're just waiting for their scores.

RedElf: It's been a tough competition so far, folks. I have been very impressed with this talented bunch of newcomers. Oh - I think the judges are ready - yes, they're putting up their score cards now... It looks like what we expected at this pint in the competition - eights straight across from the Russia, America, France, and Great Britain, and - wait a minute! Look - a perfect ten from the Chinese judge!

ladyjane1: What an upset! The Romanian judge has just posted a ten as well!

RedElf: - and the French judge has re-tasted that last dish, and changed his score! He's just posted a ten, too!

ladyjane1: Let's see if KoffeeKlatch Gals can enlighten us about this unexpected turn of events. Gals, you're right next to the ovens, in the "heat of the battle" you might say. Can you hear any of the judges' comments?

KoffeeKlatch Gals: (mumble, munch, mumble) Marf, mph um furmerph-mumph... (munch, munch) My, but that last entry was yummy! Sorry, ladies! It's anybody's guess at the moment, but it seems that after sampling the last few recipes, the judges have decided to throw out the old ranking system and go strictly by the merits of each individual entry! That's almost unheard of in the entire history of judging this event.

RedElf: Well, it's anybody's game now, folks! Any of these six new finalists stand a good chance to medal in this event!
